Dining at the Longhorn

If you don't feel like cooking a turkey with all the trimming this Thanksgiving, you might want to stop in for a delicious meal at The Longhorn restaurant on 17th Street in Ocala.

Big black cloud

Do you ever feel like a big, black cloud is following you wherever you go?

Near this house in the woods...

I'm sure I spied a little girl wearing a red hood. And at the edge of the woods I saw what appeared to be a wolf. But when the creature turned and ran I could tell it was merely a coyote. I looked back to where I spied the little girl, but she was gone. Obviously, this was not the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

Our only hope?

These specific signs appear on various street corners around our town. They are considered "litter" and the police have said you can stop, pick 'em up, and throw 'em away.

Dog days of summer and family picnic

These photos were taken a month or two ago. Unfortunately, the dog days of summer means that ponds like this [1st photo] often get covered over with green slime and the water is not very attractive.

But it's a beautiful time of year in central Florida. The second photo shows a family taking advantage of the nice weather by having a picnic at Sholom Park. Notice that the mother was taking pictures with a DSLR.

Walk and talk...

Walk and talk
All day ev'ry day
Is there a minute's peace
Are we to be inundated
With cute ring tones
Text messages
And jangly voices

Forever?

Perhaps we could pause
Hold a steady head
Listen for that
Sound that doesn't
Pierce our ears
Or melt our brains...the
Sound of silence!

Sunrise ... cut in half

This photo has not been altered other than a bit of contrast added and some sharpening. I have no clue as to why the sky appears to be split apart. Perhaps someone out there in Blogger Land will know what caused that phenomenon.

Early voting in southwest Ocala

We arrived at 8:30 AM. I thought the polls opened at 9:00 AM. I was surprised at how few people were standing in line. At 8:50 AM, I asked someone when the polls opened. They said "Ten o'clock." So, we waited. But it all turned out OK, because if we had come later, we would have had a hard time finding a place to park and we would have been way at the end of that line which you see in the 4th photograph!

Ocala Farm Ministry

Ocala Farm Ministry is located in the woods northwest of the city. It is part of the Race Track Chaplaincy program. Although a fundamentalist Christian ministry, [which means their main emphasis is on "saving souls" by encouraging people to accept Christ as their personal savior and to accept the Bible as the word of God and true in every respect] it is also involved in providing assistance of a more secular nature to persons working in the racetrack industry. Chaplain Bob heads up the program here, and you can learn more about him and the ministry as well as the impact of thoroughbred horse racing in the Ocala area here.

This one is for Anjoe-Playhouse in Lolland, Denmark, who when I last heard from her, was making hay!

Eighth Street Elementary School

Eighth Street Elementary School is located in the downtown historic area. Constructed in 1914, the building has undergone renovation and now houses a dynamic learning center in the middle of the city! You can read about it's history and its mission and much more here.
"Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again." — Henri Cartier-Bresson
