On the run

The March theme is "People on the street." You can see other takes on the theme here.

Please note we'll be on hiatus for a couple of weeks.  May your days be filled with sunshine and spring flowers!

Science and religion

This photo was taken in the waiting room of a medical office. Because the medical profession is based on science, this question came to mind: Can science and religion co-exist or are the two fundamentally at odds with each other?

New donkey in town

This cute little critter is new to our neighborhood. When we rode by his home the other day while out biking, he wanted to say "Hello," so we stopped to chat for a minute. I couldn't understand him too well (he spoke a language foreign to me) and I'm not sure where he came from. But he does like people, he said, especially people with cameras. So, I took his picture and showed it to him. He brayed and brayed!

Foggy morning at Spruce Creek

We've had a number of foggy mornings lately. These pictures were taken at the Preserve of Spruce Creek golf course. The first shot shows the clubhouse (pro shop and restaurant.) The second photo captures two foursomes on hole #1 ready to tee off into the fog.

Railroad trestle

We still have trains that rumble through Ocala occasionally. In fact, we could hear the train whistles from where we used to live in East Ocala.

But some of Florida's elected officials are monumentally stupid.  First, our governor declined federal monies for the Medicaid program which means many people - the elderly and the young - will be left without health insurance.  Now, this guy (along with a subservient state legislature) has decided to accept millions and millions of federal dollars to build a high-speed rail line down I-95 to Miami, as well as across the central part of the state through Orland to Tampa.

There are a couple of problems with this.  For one, federal money will cover only part of the cost.  The rest will be absorbed by Florida's taxpayers.  Secondly, we already have train service to Miami and across the state to Orlando, Tampa, Ocala, Lakeland and other places.  It's called  Amtrak!

[It should be noted also that the governor fought any kind of high-speed rail service tooth and nail up until just recently.  Something changed.  Past is prologue so far as he goes, so follow the money!]

Oak Run

Oak Run is an older 55+ community locsted in the southwest portion of the Ocala "metropolis." It is very beautiful with mature trees and parks and lovely homes. There is also a public golf course which is one of the nicest in this part of town.

Pond - Preserve of Spruce Creek Golf Course

This is a look at the 11th green from the 12th tee box at the Preserve of Spruce Creek. I've been told there used to be an alligator hiding in these waters but I've never seen it. A few weeks ago, I read a newspaper article describing how a bear had come out of the woods surrounding this community to do some damage to the gutters of a house. I've never seen a bear here, either.

This beauty lives just down the road.  He's new in town and has a new paddock as well as a donkey to keep him company.  I call him our new "neigh"bor.

Straight plumbing?

We've posted a picture of a truck from Strait Plumbing before. It seems however, that the company is no longer as straight as Strait used to be.

Vitto in a hole

My friend, Vitto, is a very good golfer. But once in awhile he whacks his ball in such a way it lands in unsightly places. In this instance, he hit his ball into a depression known as a retention pond.

We have many retention ponds in central Florida. They collect excess water when there's too much rain, thus relieving the chance of flooding as well as the creation of sinkholes.

I should note that between Vitto and the green are large oak trees. I made the mistake of thinking I had him on the ropes - so to speak. But he created a beautiful shot which flew over the trees, wafted to the right on a breeze and landed softly not too far from the cup.

Kudos to Vitto! Woe is me!

The clean-up man

This guy plays golf for money. With friends. It's amazing, but he always cleans up! Maybe I should send him down to Jack in south Florida.

Florist - Artistic Flowers

This relatively new florist shop is located in Canopy Oak Plaza on SR 200 in SW Ocala. I thought the artistic work on the windows was quite attractive.

Smart Car?

You will notice that on this car lot, the Smart Car is surrounded by big pickup trucks. If you're driving a Smart Car on the streets of Ocala, the same situation prevails. You will be surrounded by big pickup trucks. If you live in Ocala, it might be smarter to get a pickup truck than a Smart Car!

Wabbit hole?

This would appear to be an entry for some kind of animal, but I'm not sure which. I asked Bugs Bunny but he just laughed and said, "It ain't my wabbit hole!"

"Entry" is the theme for February.  You can see lots of other photographs on this theme by clicking here.
