Boats like these plied the waters of the Silver River during the last part of the 19th century, bringing merchandise to the folks living in the Ocala area.
Jacob, this shot is wonderful in that it took me from a cold New England to a hot, humid, swampy, Florida river with crocodiles and moss hanging from the trees and the sweet heavy air is filled with the sound of squacking colorful birds. Thanks. (Probably not like that at all but I can dream.)
Antjas...you've got it almost right. No crocs, but plenty of alligators. And yes, there are squawking, colorful birds...even some runaway parrots, and a few monkeys that are running loose. Sometimes, though, the air is so heavy and sweet you can hardly breathe!
Argh! Everything has already been said! ;-) I really like the red contrasting with the luxuriant green and can almost hear somes squawking, colourful birds! ;-)

It looks like they are still working.. Beautiful shot of the swamp..I would not want to go swimming there though...don't want to feed whatever is down below!!!
Marie-Noyale - I'm not sure if they're still working or not; I don't think so, though. And no, you wouldn't want to swim in the river...there are numerous alligators in the area and they've been known to think humans would make a palatable dinner.
