There is a rather large entry area coming in to Silver Springs Park. Visitors walk over a bridge and then across a wide open area before buying tickets and going through the gates. Just as one crosses the bridge, you will almost always find a couple of parrots sitting perched on a tree off to the right. They are not tethered in any way and you can get close and talk to them. That's fine. But if you understand what they are saying, you may wish to see professional help.
These two parrots didn't talk to us at all. They simply sat there in regal splendor and one of them actually turned as if to ignore us totally.
But they were pretty. I understand their wings have been clipped so they can't fly away.

ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful birds. Do you have wild populations of any tropical birds that far south. Atlanta has parakeets and we have nutmeg mannikins, I would be surprised to learn you didn't have something.
ReplyDelete@PJ - No, I think there are some parrots that got loose in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Lots of little green parrots down there, too.
ReplyDeleteWe have a wild flock of parrots flying around San Deigo and they are the green ones ones as well. Beautiful birds...my Aunt had one and he was the "nicest" bird til he bit my uncles finger almost off!

ReplyDeleteMacaws are simply stunning! I was very lucky to have visited the Manu Biosphere in the peruvian Amazonia, where they are by the hundreds allways flying above our heads.

ReplyDeleteWonderful color aren't they? Isn't it a shame we have to clip their wings to be able to enjoy them...I have lovely colorful lorikeets that come to visit the gum trees at my place in Australia. I ma enjoying the weather, spring blossoms and architecture in NYC at the moment!
