Another restored house in the historic district

  1. I don't know if they do it for comfort, but the windows in the porch don't make the house look good.

  2. @ Cristobal - Well, I think it's to keep out bugs, mosquitos, alligators, bears, etc.

I'm just kidding about alligators. A couple of bears have been sighted in the area, though - last year!

  4. A nice simple house with large windows on the ground floor. I like it.

  5. Cristóbal is right, they may be useful, but those screens are out of tone with this beautiful house.

Bears? In Florida? The ones with the fur?

  6. Should be a koOL place to live in... with the garden veranda... and all... A keen feel a breath of fresh air even when looking at the photo.. Nice!

  7. I love that white chair in the veranda. It must be nice to watch the bears when you're sitting there sipping a cup of tea ;-)

  9. I really like the porch! It's nice and shady and looks like a relaxing place to spend the afternoon.

  10. @ Ciel - I think you thought I was kidding about the bears...not so. There have been at least two occasions when black bears have been seen in trees in this area near downtown. In one case, I believe the authorities tranquilized it, but in the other, it finally came down from the tree and wandered off never to be seen again.

This house is only about 4 miles from the Ocala National Forest.

But we live only 1 mile from the ONF and I've never seen a bear in our community. Thank goodness.

  13. I like the screened in porch. I'd love to sit out there on cool evenings. Although I know those are rare in the Florida summer!

The colors in this photo are also really nice. What kind of camera do you use?

  15. Jacob, that's a lovely house. But I'm really starting to think you are taking photos in the Philippines, not Florida.

  16. Jake: It looks like you missed your calling. Perhaps you should have been in real estate. Your photo makes this place attractive, but purists may say the place has been remudled by the additions to the porch. What is important is whether there is a contented family inside.

  17. @ Lee - I like your word, "remudled." But to each his own, I guess. The other thing is you really wouldn't be able to use the porch during the summer without some kind of screening...too many bugs! Notice on the second floor, there appears to be a small unscreened balcony. Perhaps the residents had a difference of opinion...

  19. I wonder how old this building is, Jacob. I guess screens have been aroud for a long, long time, eh?

Love that screened porch! Looks like a great spot to enjoy an afternoon without fighting the mosquitoes!
