Four miles from our home is a piece of the Cross Florida Greenway: a six-mile paved loop through several different types of terrain. Someone decided to provide a home and food for the local birds by hanging a small bird house, a bell-shaped chunk of feed and a wind chime from a small tree - to keep the birds happy.
I've never seen a bird near this tree, however. But as they say, it's the thought that counts.

ReplyDeleteThe wind chime would scare them away, the hanging house can hardly be attractive and as for food there should be plenty around anyhow.

So true, it's important that somebody atleast thought of this kind gesture towards the birds. We keep a small bowl of water in the veranda for the birds along with some grains... although we see a very few birds in the day but.. who knows when they get thirsty during these tough summer days here in Mumbai!!

ReplyDeleteI know I put a bird feeder out in our front yard in my crabapple tree and the birds would not touch it. Then I put them about 20 feet away from it and I cannot keep them filled.
@ Rose - Interesting comment. It could be this feeder is too close to the tree, to the ground, and to the trail...

The beautiful thing with artistic freedom is that you can reinterpret anything. At least that's what they say. So, regardless of how this was intended, we could agree that it is in fact an installation. And the birds are happy elsewhere. Case closed.

Perhaps there aren't really any birds at all around that area. :) Or perhaps there's a larger animal that hangs out around that tree, keeping the birds at bay. This picture almost looks like a painting to me. Everything is so sharp and clear and colourful.

Vienna seems to have many people who care about birds - even out in the woods do I find birdhouses which are kept stocked with seeds and such.
