An abandoned house in the woods about a mile from our home.

  1. Don't you just wish this house could talk? don't you just want and need to know the whole story? What happened and why was this house abandoned and will it just stay this way and die? MB

  5. Even a nice place to live. Peace and quiet is probably the advantages of this place.

  6. Too many bad horror and thriller movies left me a bit worried of houses like this. What could be hiding there? Probably nothing, but...

  8. Life after people... somehow. It's quite amazing how quickly nature takes over again.

  10. Something fascinating about abandoned houses... I bet if you walked in there and sat on the porch for 5 minutes, you could hear children singing in the background :::)))

  13. @ B Squared - the photo makes it look better than it really is...

  14. It does seem to be in good shape, but who knows what the inside looks like. Maybe the bad economy caused them to abandon it.

  15. @ Small City Scenes - Exactly. When we lived in Pennsylvania in the 70s our son would find abandoned houses and dig around them -- digging up a variety of bottles and pottery, some from the 19th century! I'd always try to put together a story about the lives of the people who lived there...

I've got to go back and recheck this house...maybe it's been reclaimed...it's rather out of the way in the woods, along a road that's less traveled...

  16. This looks like Florida to me !
It is so wild how the town of Ocala seems to have some many personalities. Some houses look like the are in New England, some like the Mid-West.... this one..... for sure Florida. Something you would see in a movie. I bet fixed up it's personality would really come through. Even as it sits.... there is something about this house I really like.

  17. Sad to see a house in good shape deserted when so many are homeless..

  18. I always wonder why a house becomes abandoned. Someone must have loved it at one time. Children may have played in that space and happy voices echoed in its halls but now all is silent and waiting....

  24. It's amazing that it hasn't been vandalized. It looks like it won't take long before nature reclaims it though.
    Nice find Jacob.

  25. @ Halcyon - What you say is true. But I thought for "empty" theme day I just post a picture of my head!

  26. I wouldn't count your head among the empty ones, Jacob! :)

As for the house, there's obviously a story behind this and I'm not sure it's a happy one.

  31. Thank you all for your comments about this abandoned house. You might be interested to note that Lois Anne and I drove by it today and find it is essentially unchanged, except there is a For Sale sign in the front yard.

  32. Would love to find an old house like this to buy or even rent. Out in the country, quiet that's for me. It does need to have electric and water capabilities, primitive only goes so far. :)

Seriously, anyone know of such a home in Northwest Florida, Bay or Holmes county areas I'd like to know about it.

  33. This looks like the house the reclusive lady in the movie, Jeepers Creepers, lived in. The movie was filmed in and around Ocala, Florida.
