Let Freedom Ring!

Let Freedom Ring!

See, here's the thing:
Some things matter
More than others.
Freedom, for instance...
The right of
Self-determination.

See, here's the thing:
Ayatollahs everywhere -
Presidents, premiers,
Ministers or fuhrers -
Know not freedom;
Only power derived from fear.

See - here's the thing:
Power - assumed, stolen, or built on fear
Is weakness
Not strength.
Real power derives only
From the people.

See - here's the thing:
Today, in Iran and in Europe,
In Asia and the Americas,
In countries everywhere
The people gather and the people sing
"Let Freedom Ring!"

See - here's the thing:
Freedom is the most important thing.

Let freedom ring!

A poem in honor of our City Daily Blogger colleague, Amir, from Tehran, Iran, who is missing in action.

Sunday, June 28, has been set aside to call attention to his plight.

  3. Jacob, very nice remembrance for today to support the people of Iran and our fellow city daily photo blogger. It is hard to feel we are so helpless to help him

  4. Your poem is spot on, Jacob! Thank you.

Regardless of who won the election, regardless of race or beliefs, it is heartwarming to see so many people expressing their outrage at the violence being done by their own government to the people of Iran. I truly hope the violence ends soon.

  8. Dear Jacob,
Such a touching post! Iran is a country that fascinates me so much for its rich history and many other things, it's a place I'd like to visit someday. And it's so sad that it's been ruled like this by a bunch of ruthless radicals!
Not many decades ago Brazil was also under a long lasting rule of military dictatorship till the time the country awoke to freedom! Hope our fellow Iranians are paving their way for it! My sympathies to them!
    God bless you!
    God bless Amir!
    Cezar
