See, here's the thing:
Some things matter
More than others.
Freedom, for instance...
The right of
Self-determination.
See, here's the thing:
Ayatollahs everywhere -
Presidents, premiers,
Ministers or fuhrers -
Know not freedom;
Only power derived from fear.
See - here's the thing:
Power - assumed, stolen, or built on fear
Is weakness
Not strength.
Real power derives only
From the people.
See - here's the thing:
Today, in Iran and in Europe,
In Asia and the Americas,
In countries everywhere
The people gather and the people sing
"Let Freedom Ring!"
See - here's the thing:
Freedom is the most important thing.
Let freedom ring!

Well done Jacob. Inspiring. I hope it is heard around the world.
ReplyDeleteSo good Jacob, that you could express your feeling through your poetry. Pete Seeger would be right chuffed!!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you posted on this special Theme Day. We want our blogger back. The world is watching.
Thank you! MB
ReplyDeleteJacob, very nice remembrance for today to support the people of Iran and our fellow city daily photo blogger. It is hard to feel we are so helpless to help him
ReplyDeleteYour poem is spot on, Jacob! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of who won the election, regardless of race or beliefs, it is heartwarming to see so many people expressing their outrage at the violence being done by their own government to the people of Iran. I truly hope the violence ends soon.
Beautiful poem Jacob - thanks fot this!

ReplyDeleteSuperb post Jacob. Thumbs up, have a wonderful Sunday.
ReplyDeleteDear Jacob,
ReplyDeleteSuch a touching post! Iran is a country that fascinates me so much for its rich history and many other things, it's a place I'd like to visit someday. And it's so sad that it's been ruled like this by a bunch of ruthless radicals!
Not many decades ago Brazil was also under a long lasting rule of military dictatorship till the time the country awoke to freedom! Hope our fellow Iranians are paving their way for it! My sympathies to them!
God bless you!
God bless Amir!
Cezar
Nicely done, Jacob!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this, Jacob!

ReplyDeleteI know the news now, he is home. All of the posts about freedom and freedom of speech have been very inspiring. I'm getting a little overwhelmed. Yours is truly heartfelt and nearly brought tears to my eyes reading it.
