Little Dove Baptist Church

Located on the southeastern edge of Ocala, Little Dove Baptist Church sits on a corner near an increasingly busy highway from where it strives to send a message to those driving by.

  1. The little church looks a lot like one here. In the picture it looks like it's in the country, not by a busy highway. Clever message on the sign.

  2. 'Little Dove'--a sweet name for a sweet church.

BTW--I came home this evening--that old Eagle took me everywhere and I was feathers above them ole turkeys. MB

  3. Some of the most clever signs I've seen have been at churches. Nice photos.

  4. Thie first picture is shot with a very nice perspective! Can I ask what is B-1?

  5. Very nice set of photos, I didn't get the vitamin thing at first... I really like the sign of the middle photo, so classic and elegant.

  6. Hi Kcalpesh...B-1 is the name of a vitamin. You have to say it out loud to get the effect: The best vitamin for a Christian is B-1 (to be one).

It's kind of silly but churches seem to like cutesy signs. Often they don't many any sense at all.

  7. @ MB - Welcome back. Thank God for eagles!

  12. I had to laught at Daryl's comment!
Yes, a sweet little church. Have you ever been insode?

  13. OK, let's start with "palmiers". It's basically puff pastry and sugar, also called "elephant's ears". You might want to try http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Sweet-Palmiers-106763
which should give you an idea.

It's a really cute little church with a lovely and evocative name. Isn't being one at the risk of losing oneself?

  14. Ok CQ! How come you're so darn smart? I checked out "palmiers" and know now what they are...they sell them at our local Publix in the bakery and they are Lois Anne's favorite pastries. I just didn't know what they were called! Sheesh!

Re: this cute little church. It's just a silly saying, and really doesn't mean much of anything...just encouraging the members (and public) to actually live like a Christian is supposed to live and that will give you more vitality or whatever it is that vitamins do for you.

This church is really out in the woods...but the highway has been widened and is now quite busy...it serves the black community in that area.

  16. I miss seeing this kind of a scene while taking road trips in the summer.

  17. There's something about these signs - I cannot resist reading them...even though they are often traffic hazards as you muddle your way passed them trying to figure out what they mean. It's safe to post them on your blog though. I promise to NOT fall off my chair. ;-)

  18. We should start some kind of "Sacred Sunday" or "Sacred Sabbath" meme, if it isn't out there already. Love the church today.

I'm still not believing that you maintain 8-9 blogs! How do you do it?

  19. It's tough when you have to explain 'em. I couldn't help but see the condition of the sign . . . it could use a vitamin shot or something . . . great catch and appropriate for Sunday ;-)

  20. It's tough when you have to explain 'em, Jacob. Looks to me like the sign could use a shot or two of vitamins or something . . . it's hanging by threads.

  21. @ Slim - You're right! The reason for the "threads" is, I believe, this is a relatively poor congregation...

  22. @ Greensboro - I really have no idea. I'm retired?

  23. Why is the grass so dry? I thought Florida had tons of rain? Maybe the grass needs somes B-1. The Unitarian Universalist has some high-brow quotes which we get to read at one of the few stop lights in town.

  24. @ Antjas - The photos were taken awhile back...and the grass had not greened up yet.

  25. It seems like humorous church signs are the in thing. I don't pay too much attention, but I think I've seen some around here, too.

I always appreciate your visits and comments! Thanks again :)
