This one's for Per Stromsjo at Stockholm by Pixels. Some time ago, he raised the question as to whether we had any "Swedish" houses (blue & yellow) in Ocala. Since then, we've searched high and low but could not find anything fitting that description.
We've driven by this place hundreds of times. It's located on a small but busy road in the woods just across from Silver Springs Park. The house, obviously quite old, was a weather-beaten white, badly in need of paint and a general sprucing up.
What a surprise. We drove by the other day and this is what we saw. Per Stromsjo's Swedish house!
It doesn't appear to have a volvo in the garage.

Oh, we have a Swedish house, too, right across the street. I'll see if I have a photo of it in my archives (or if I can get a good one of it right now) and post it today. Thanks for the inspiration.

ReplyDeleteWow, it's so cute. I like the yellow and blue and the chimney sets it off nicely. The style kind of reminds me of the one that my husband lived in when he was a kid, that I posted on August 21st.

ReplyDelete@ Lois - The "Swedish house" thing is kind of a joke, Lois. The reason I call it Swedish is because of the colors - yellow and blue!

ReplyDelete@ Kate - I'm sure there's some competition between Ocala and Kentucky, but Ocala claims the title with more than 200 horse farms. Ocala also claims a number of winning race horses - born, raised, or trained here.

ReplyDeleteI do love your new banner. My neighbor's house is yellow and blue, alas, the wrong shade of blue, so we'll call it a colonial. It took me a while to figure out why it was Swedish. The red chimney further enhances the Swedish theme as in Swedish fish.
ReplyDeleteI heard it was the Finns that got blue. But I don't mean to malign them. I've already posted something about Vikings in our streets (with the Scandinavian flags on the long boat in the parade), and was notified that Finns were not Vikings and there is no need to fear them. Which reminds me, I need to go and let her know that I'm no longer afraid of Finns. Except perhaps on sharks, which is another topic.

ReplyDeleteI am Swedish and well...no I've never seen a house like this over here. We have wooden red and white houses...but yes the colors are correct. I am moving to ocala in august so i'll have to check this one out.
