This fine specimen must have had his wings clipped, for he and another parrot sit unfettered on a perch near the entrance of Silver Springs Park. I think he was posing for me.
@ Ciel - You are funny! And so perceptive. I knew there was something special about this bird, but I couldn't quite grasp what it was...you did it! The damn thing's a Swede!

Birds scare me. It's hard to put a leash on them and take a long walk. And these buggers live for 100+ years, if I'm not mistaken. That's a lot of parrot chow! He is, however, pretty to look at from afar:)
That's a beauty of a shot Jacob. I think you might be right about the bird having it's wings clipped. That is a common thing to do to captive birds. It's kind of sad though...if one can fly one should be able to do so. Perhaps the bird has never flown and doesn't know what it's missing and that is why it looks so happy.
@ Jarat and all - I don't know the circumstances of this parrot and other parrots on display (which I'll also be posting) but Silver Springs has for years been very active in bird rehabilitation and those birds that can be rehabbed are returned to the wild...others are made comfortable and if possible given a task at Silver Springs...some in the daily bird show.
@ Allison - This guy's a puddy tat! I stood about 3-4 feet from him...he didn't even try to bite me...of course I didn't attempt to pet him; that could have been a problem.
So, the next time you're at Silver Springs, try to contain yourself; don't pet the birds and they'll let you get close!
I wonder if Jacob noticed this isn't a horse. . . . But it is gorgeous, and wonderful color and clarity in the photo. I'd like to take this lovely bird home, and I've never been that much of a bird person (until watching wild birds recently).
