Parrot at Silver Springs Park

This fine specimen must have had his wings clipped, for he and another parrot sit unfettered on a perch near the entrance of Silver Springs Park. I think he was posing for me.

  1. WOW! What a gorgeous parrot! Super. Great color! Nice clarity.

I'm leaving tomorrow for almost a week--headed up to Harbor Springs for a writer's workshop!

If Ic an't get on-line up there, I'll catch up when I come home next week.

  5. Posing? It looks enamoured. Did it croak tender words at you? :-) It's beautiful, the colours are so... Swedish (except for the hint of green)!

  8. What a beauty! How kind of him to pose for you! The parrots in my neck of the woods just zoom by screeching and squawking!

  10. He is beautiful. Lovely colors. How neat to live in a climate where Parrits can just hang out. MB

  11. Yes, parrots love to pose and show off their finery - most of them are very playful. Lovely photo.

  12. Colorful picture! Like the DoF. The unsharp background adds to the picture.

  13. He's beautiful, and does look as if he's posing. I had a squirrel do this at the Cloisters in NYC. A real ham.

  14. Amazing creatures with old souls. But, having two parakeets, I bet these guys are noisy and messy.

  15. He looks you for the photo either successful

  16. Did he have anything to say or was he content to just sit there and look handsome?

  17. @ Brattcat - He was quite aloof; snooty, actually. Didn't say a thing. Not even, "Polly want a cracker"!

  18. Jacob wan' a cracker?! Jacob wan' a cracker?!

  19. @ Ciel - You are funny! And so perceptive. I knew there was something special about this bird, but I couldn't quite grasp what it was...you did it! The damn thing's a Swede!

  21. He definitely loves the camera Jacob! What a beautiful bird. By the way, I posted two pictures of the old glass bottom boat on my blog today. Tell me what you think!

  23. A beautiful bird - even with clipped wings.

  24. Birds scare me. It's hard to put a leash on them and take a long walk. And these buggers live for 100+ years, if I'm not mistaken. That's a lot of parrot chow! He is, however, pretty to look at from afar:)

  25. That's a beauty of a shot Jacob. I think you might be right about the bird having it's wings clipped. That is a common thing to do to captive birds. It's kind of sad though...if one can fly one should be able to do so. Perhaps the bird has never flown and doesn't know what it's missing and that is why it looks so happy.

  26. @ Jarat and all - I don't know the circumstances of this parrot and other parrots on display (which I'll also be posting) but Silver Springs has for years been very active in bird rehabilitation and those birds that can be rehabbed are returned to the wild...others are made comfortable and if possible given a task at Silver Springs...some in the daily bird show.

  27. @ Allison - This guy's a puddy tat! I stood about 3-4 feet from him...he didn't even try to bite me...of course I didn't attempt to pet him; that could have been a problem.

So, the next time you're at Silver Springs, try to contain yourself; don't pet the birds and they'll let you get close!

  32. I wonder if Jacob noticed this isn't a horse. . . . But it is gorgeous, and wonderful color and clarity in the photo. I'd like to take this lovely bird home, and I've never been that much of a bird person (until watching wild birds recently).

  33. @ Tapirgal - You're so silly! Horses don't have feathers! Sheesh!

  34. Hee... I guess we sort of switched themes for today. I had the horsies and you had the birds!

  35. Wow, everyone said it all but I agree , this guy liked you and posed Jacob!

  36. It's a beautiful bird and was so certain it would look great on your blog, which it does, so the parrot was pleased to cooperate. ;-)
