The Marion County Health Department set up a vaccination center for the H1N1 virus in Ocala's Forest High School cafeteria. The center was staffed by volunteer nurses and other folks and the vaccine was free. We took advantage of this fine program along with many hundreds of other people!
This was a delightful expression of a community caring for one another. Perhaps it could also be seen as representative of the meaning of this holiday season.
Okay. That's good. No swine flu for you. We still don't have enough up here to go around.

ReplyDeleteI appreciate that they are relatively inexpensive and now available. Looks like the picture is a "shot" and shows a "shot" of goodwill.

ReplyDeleteI was vaccinated against a flu, whichever one it was at the time, twice in my life and got sicker than a dog. I've just been sicker than a dog with no shot, so I think I won't get this one! But I support the program!

ReplyDelete@ Jarat - I don't know why, but the supply seemed plentiful here. It's interesting, but a lot of times people seem oblivious to my taking photos...sometimes, I'll get an angry stare, but most of the time people try to ignore me.
ReplyDelete@ Bibi - That's too bad. You must have some kind of allergy to whatever's in them. We have gotten the regular flu shot for years with no problem, and other a slightly sore arm (where they punctured us) for a day, we had no problem with the H1N1 shot, either.
ReplyDeleteGood set up. I must say Ontario did a fairly good job offering H1N1 vaccinations to everyone in our province that wanted it.
ReplyDeleteIt is a very nice program indeed. My mom is a retired RN who also volunteers for programs such as this. I always admire those in the health care business. I know it is something I do not have the moxy for.
ReplyDelete@ Bergson - You know, I'm not sure. They had people with red flare type things who would direct you to different lines, tables, etc.
ReplyDeleteI know we probably are not in the exact same age but I keep reading that us somewhat older folks were not in the target for vaccinations...now that seems to be changing. babies, pregnant moms are still a priority but maybe the supply has increased. No one here is offering it like your county that I'm aware of.

ReplyDeleteI like the idea, also that it is free. I think it is important, but I have heard about several people that have been so sick after they had taken the vaccination..... I guess I can/will take it in the beginning of next year. We only pay 50 kroner, but I have heard about crazy payments in some european countries... Some buy and sell it on the black marked!!

I think I have been poked enough this winter. No more, LOL. The girl that came to our work for our regular flu shot kept asking everyone if we had seen her flask...
ReplyDeleteMy mother is in a risk group, so she got her shot a month or so ago. I'm hoping to get by without one.
ReplyDeleteAustralia has sufficient stocks, but to my knowledge no free clinics have been set up yet in Adelaide.
