  2. A lady from the city and her traveling companion were riding the train through Vermont when she noticed some cows.

"What a cute bunch of cows!" she remarked.
"Not a bunch, herd", her friend replied.
    "Heard of what?"
    "Herd of cows."
"Of course I've heard of cows."
    "No, a cow herd."
"What do I care what a cow heard. I have no secrets to keep from a cow!"

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Did I beat Safe Leif to the comments?

  4. @ Allison - Yes! You beat the ol' man to the comments. It's a good thing, too, 'cause what he ain't ever herd of would fill a book or two!

Funny joke. Must have been Swedish and Norwegian cows!

  5. Nice shots. I wonder what that tag in that cow's ear is for.

  6. Don't know how curious they are, but they sure look content.

  7. Good one, Allison.

The first cow is thinking of going to California and the laying down cow is just going "huh?" . MB

  8. I have never seen horses like these...

  9. The cow in your top photo is probably thinking "Why couldn't my farmer have given me a better name than '26P', like Elsie or Bessie?"

  10. You came this close to the cows?

Glad to see cows actually spending time on grass, rather than crowded pens - they'll make lovely filet mignon.

  12. @ Small City Scenes - Please, Mary Beth, don't encourage Allison. I have enough trouble with her the way it is! ;-)

  13. Not just horses, huh?

They do look odd to me, with the bug-eyes and tuft of hair, but cute and sweet too!

  14. MOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Doz R not cows in Wisconsin where I'm originally from - we have dairy cow there!

Allison is so silly! I think now she thinks she can do stand up comedy! (WE probably could together though) Hope you didn't step in a cowpie to get this photo!

  16. BTW...It seems to me that the cow laying down is saying to the cow standing in front of her, "Hey Bessie, you've got a fly on your butt!"
I have it as my screen saver at work!
    Have a wonderful weekend, J & LA!

  18. I love the look they get when someone points a camera their way. Out here those ear tags are to identify breeding stock.

  24. As I do not eat red meat
    As I love animals
As...once upon a time, a little girl, about 4 or 5 years old, grew up on a farm in Brazil...
And this little girl used to sing for the cows (also for the chickens ) because somehow she knew that music could be good for the cows to give more milk (also she imagined the cute chickens laying more eggs)! LOL
    Cute Luna's friend! :)
I loved this post dear Jacob, thanks a lot!
    Have a nice weekend,
    Léia

  28. If they were mine, they would all have names. the one layng down in the middle of the photo reminds me of one I had named Daisy.

The one in the back saying, "hey look back here" reminds me of one named Betsy.

  29. When I was a child in Pa., the people down the street (in the then more rural suburbs) had a large house/estate and had cows just like these. My friends and I used to climb over their fence and pat the cows; they were all quite friendly. Excellent, nostalgic photos for me...

  30. I like the little tufts of hair on their heads! :)

  31. :) Funny. This reminds me of something from Bill Bryson about cows making great pets. Found it on the web: "To my mind, the only possible pet is a cow. Cows love you . . . They will listen to your problems and never ask a thing in return. They will be your friends forever. And when you get tired of them, you can kill and eat them. Perfect."
