I've noticed this trend here but, it's getting harder and harder to find a Barnes & Noble store that is still open around here. In fact, I'm not sure where the nearest one is these days. I'm not a coffee drinker but, I did get an iced tea at one of these places a few years ago and sat down to go through a series of travel books to help me decide which one to buy.
To answer your question, Phoenix Union High School closed back in the 80's but the building has now been incorporated into the ASU campus. ASU now has a huge campus in downtown Phoenix and it has changed the whole dynamic of the area. What was once a place that became deserted at sunset is now alive with people and activities. The growth is unbelievable. ASU has built several gorgeous buildings downtown and a few older buildings have been reused. I've featured several of the newer buildings on my site but, it's been a while since I posted those. I'll have to get some more up soon.
It looks like they have plenty of stuff for sale, but is there somewhere to sit down and enjoy the coffee (and preview a book)? I must keep my distance from Starbucks at this time of the year. Eggnog lattes are a dangerous weakness.
Very common here because square footage is so expensive, but I think it is funny how so much space is given over to selling things rather than chairs to sit and sip.
Great looking floor! I like how the stands are well spaced too and I imagine the place will get packed with people, especially now that Christmas is fast approaching. Just two months today to Christmas Eve, aaagh!
Don't drop in here as much as I used to given the shift in the economy...I use the library more and drink my coffee at home... ;(...you got a great angle on this..what kind of lens did you use?
Wonderful! I love the lighting and the striped wall.

ReplyDeleteCool! A coffee break while reading a book :)
ReplyDeleteLooks good. But I dislike Starbuck's mega-corporation attitude, but I guess that's the way things go.
ReplyDeleteThey've combined two of my favorite things: a book store and a great cup of coffee. Nice shot.
ReplyDeleteOur Barnes & Noble had a coffee shop too but the store closed last year. Such a shame because I liked that place a lot.

ReplyDeleteWhile you go get yourself a coffee, I'll be perusing books...

ReplyDeleteI do love bookstores with coffee shops attached!
ReplyDeleteI'm not into coffee but I bet there is some other treat there to tempt me!

ReplyDeleteThey all look the same, don't they?
ReplyDeleteI have been visiting "Barnes & Noble" in NYC.
ReplyDeleteI love bookshops with places like this....
Browsing books always makes me need to stop for a coffee
ReplyDeleteI can't decide whether it's comforting or depressing that no matter where you go, they're all identical.
