This photo was taken in the waiting room of a medical office. Because the medical profession is based on science, this question came to mind: Can science and religion co-exist or are the two fundamentally at odds with each other?
I think they're at odds with each other, though I come from the point of view of great respect for science and a complete loss of respect for religion.
I'm not sure what the answer is to that question, but one of my doctors (a surgeon) is a devout Catholic. I also used to work in the Physics Department at FSU and most of the professors I worked with were nuclear physicists. Some were religious and some were not.
I'd like to think that a stealth Gideon person slipped that in under the radar. I'm a heck of a lot more comfortable if the office is secular...though if the doc quietly recruits his or her God to be on her/his side I'm not opposed to reinforcements.
Maybe the answer depends on which religion and which science we're talking about. If the religion believes all science is a bunch a hooey, and the science states all religion is man-made hogwash, I predict conflict.

ReplyDeleteAt least the Gideons aren't pushy.

ReplyDeleteReligion under the shadow on science!

ReplyDeleteThey can co-exist----if we want them to. MB
ReplyDeleteOh you know the answer to that one...
ReplyDeleteThey both sit together comfortably in your photo ;-)

ReplyDeleteDepends upon your point of view!
ReplyDeleteI think there was a lot of deep thinking going on in that waiting room.
ReplyDeleteI think William sums up my feelings on the subject too! You are really posing a very deep question!
ReplyDeleteAs long as they have an open mind I don't care what they believe.
ReplyDeleteI'm not touching this one . . .
ReplyDeleteWas this the only religious book in the waiting room?
ReplyDeleteA Bible in a medical office? This is new to me.
ReplyDeleteI'm back after almost a month blog break. Hope everything is OK with Lois Anne and you.
I think they can co-exist. But you have to be willing to accept things from both sides.
ReplyDeleteBoth. :)
ReplyDeleteI am a Libra, after all... which is hogwash, of course. Or is it?
