Sculpture at the University of Florida

These two photos are of the same sculpture. They provide an example as to why "eye-witness" testimony is so unreliable (especially in a criminal trial where lives are at stake). What we "see" depends upon where we stand, the light, the complexity of the subject, and what our mind wants to see. Photographs can also be unreliable when it comes to getting the "real" picture.

  1. It is interesting how the piece looks to be 2 different sizes in the pics. So I would be saying the one suspect is 5 ft tall and the other one is 6.5 ft! I like them both, Lowell!

  2. It's a great example of point-of-view, which I discovered was easier to teach tom adolescents by using images such as this.

  7. Interesting idea here. The sculpture appears much larger (to me) in the second shot. In any case, I love the use of shapes and color.

  11. Very true! I that top photo I see a cowboy with a big ten gallon hat and in the bottom photo I see a young person raising a hammer. Two different things!

  12. Regardless of the philosophical point, it is kind of ugly.

  13. Excellent point. Why am I not surprised this piece is on a college campus?
