After 70 years, the Marion Theater in downtown Ocala, is still in business. It has been through some difficult times, but has survived by virtue of the goodwill and financial blessings of people in the community. Today it is showing "Hotel Transylvania 2" and "The Intern." It's the place to go if you're tired of "multiplexes" in "megaplexes."
I like the look of the place!
ReplyDeleteThere was an historic theater like this in the next town over, Port Angeles. It was closed a couple of years ago because the chain that owned it didn't want to pay to upgrade the equipment to digital. A community group is trying to purchase it as a venue for live performances but they've still got an uphill climb to pull together $$$.

I love the look of this theater, Lowell! It brings back fond memories for me of some old theaters that were here in Montreal and have either been torn down or repurposed. I miss the old theaters and it is because of this I just don't go to movies anymore, opting to watch movies at home either on YouTube or on the television. I am so glad that this theater is still there and is still open for business.

ReplyDeleteI love places like this. When I was traveling for work, I was always searching out the older movie theaters and I found some great ones in St. Louis especially.

ReplyDeleteI like the look of these old movie theaters. Fort Myers had a similar one, but I think it is now just an office building.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of it from the outside. But I have to admit, I like the comfort of the multi-plex. And I'm "petite" so stadium style seating is a bonus for me!
