Gators and Gear at the Oaks Mall, Gainesville, Florida

Gainesville is the home of the Gators (University of Florida). It is not surprising therefore that the local mall features a lot of "Gator" merchandise. The Oaks Mall has a center section which is inhabited mostly by various kiosks selling Gator stuff. In the center of the center section stands a full-size alligator to attract the attention of the shoppers.

  3. Gators are unnerving enough, but standing on two legs makes them more fearsome. Interesting photo. You should have a Gator teeshirt at least.

  4. I'm always amazed at how popular college sport is down there! And all the $$$ involved and all those kids playing for free - let's hope they all end up with a degree at least.

  5. I better not leave a comment on this one Lowell! I'm sure you will understand, given the fact that there is this little football game being played in your neck of the woods this weekend :)

  6. Here In Oregon, we have Ducks ( of the Disney variety) everywhere. You get discounts at some stores if you wear your Duck gear, green and yellow, on game day. I think the Ducks beat some Florida college in some bowl game last winter ..l you can see I really keep up with this stuff.

  8. Gators were the mascots of my college alma mater though I can't imagine why. Gators in San Francisco? We didn't have very good sports teams at the time. Perhaps they were hoping with a fierce enough mascot perhaps they could get fired up. Of course in the 60s competitive sports weren't quite so popular where I went to school.

Thanks for asking about Singer. I should have included a link - I have now. To answer your question, I was referring to Coventry's motor car company. Thanks again.

  15. There is just something wrong about an alligator standing on its hind feet. I guess it is eye-catching though.
