HITS - The Final Series 2016

HITS is an acronym for Horses in the Sun.  It is a hunter/jumper horse show.  In Ocala, it runs from January through March and offers a series of competitions with substantial prize money for the winners.

It is a massive event, with people and horses attending from all over the world. And the farm acreage where it is held becomes like a small town.  Because of its size, people ride horses to get to different places, or motor scooters, or golf cars.

We've attended HITS for several years but were late getting out there this year and so missed most of the jumping events.  But we've posted a number of photos of the shows and you can find them by typing in "HITS" in the search box on this blog.

  1. Wonderful shots of the horses Lowell. I don't think I've ever seen one on the ground like that.

  3. Beautiful horses in your photos. I can see why you attend this event. I grew up with a barn full of horses, so I know something about their attraction. My last horse when I was a teenager was a large (17 hands +2") show jumper. She could jump the moon if asked.

  10. I was telling Bill about HITS (what I had already learned on your blog) while we were watching the Ky Derby Saturday (I know, different, but horses...) I don't know much about horses at all, but my mother was born and raised in Louisville and loved it. (She migrated west as a young woman for a job and never went back.) So we always watched the Derby with her and now when we can we watch in her memory.
