This gunboat was located in the St. John's River near Palatka, Florida. It reminds me of a small gunboat used by US troops on the rivers of Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
I'm wondering how the little house we rented at Ormond Beach has fared through Matthew's onslaught. We stayed there 4 or 5 times. Neptune Park, opposite Publix on I think it's A1A, and right on the ocean. It would have been in line for the worst storm surges.
Yes, it does evoke that.
ReplyDeleteAn amazing find and great photos, Lowell!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine having to man a boat like this.
ReplyDeleteWow! Deceptively dangerous!
ReplyDeleteTrust hurricane has not affected you. Stay safe.
Where is 'McHale" and his crew?? lol!
ReplyDelete(TV-McHales Navy)
That's more than a little weird. Not to mention creepy and a little scary.
ReplyDeleteGlad you escaped the main brunt of Matthew!
It does remind you of those kinds of boats. Nice image Lowell.
ReplyDeleteNot something you expect to see floating around Florida.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one wondering what the heck a gunboat is doing there Lowell, it makes for a fab image though 😊
ReplyDeleteThat is a surprising find!

ReplyDeleteThat is a bit bizarre, Lowell!
ReplyDeleteGlad that you are okay after the storm!
I am so pleased my name is written with double N.
ReplyDeleteJoke aside, I guess I would have been really surprised to see a boat like this.
Happy weekend!
This boat must be someone's idea of a floating joke. Looks like the hull of an old sailboat.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure they are not pirates? :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm who is using that.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who used to be on a small gun boat in the deltas of 'Nam. Brrrrr
