Palace Saloon

The Palace Saloon is the oldest bar in Florida and is guarded by a cranky old pirate who makes Captain Kidd look like a choirboy! It is located on the main drag in historic Amelia Island.

  2. The place sounds very interesting. According to its website, it has a 40-foot bar lit with gas lamps.

  3. Would that be Long John Silver? If so, I'd advise him that the missing rum can be tracked down to my idiot-ex-brother-in-law.

  5. That is a crusty old pirate. Your b&w photo is great. Looks like it could have been taken many decades ago.

  6. He does look a bit crusty. We have an establishment here called the Palace Saloon, but it's not nearly as old as this one!

  10. Adore pirate stories. One I particularly enjoy is Pierre Laffite in New Orleans.

  11. A pirate, a ghost sign for a saloon, and a ghost sign for Coca Cola. Something seems a little contradictory here, doesn't it?

  13. The pirate looks angry but I'm sure he would be happy if you stepped inside.
