I wonder if they saw the "Lone Ranger" canoeing, too? I just hope they didn't have any raw hamburger for a picnic in their canoe....don't alligators have a keen sense of smell?!
@ Safe Leif - I don't want to generalize about an alligator's keen sense of smell...
I do know, though, from stories passed down from generation to generation in the Everglades, that Florida alligators can smell a Minneesotan from about 1800 miles!

No one would ever go canoeing around here if they worried about alligators. If there is any water worth canoeing in, there will be alligators (and snakes)! I'm always amused when the sign says to swim in designated areas only--as if the alligators can be kept out of the designated areas!
Do these people have death wishes or are they just gluttons for punishment? Is that a dead in the water on the right side of the buoy in the last pic? Jeez, scaaary!
I love your blog photos. The problem is when I go to leave a comment, I see almost 40 comments already posted and think "come on, Irina, who needs your opinion here? :-))" I have just read your comment in Moscow blog and laughing hard. The truth is that almost all our guards and monitorers have same important faces watching us.. like pigeons around.
@ Wolynski - Nah...just avoid the alligators. And don't swim here in the early morning or early evening...during the day most of the gators are on a bank sunning themselves...
It's not as humid here as it South Florida...during the winter it's rather dry and very nice (usually) - but it doth get rather warm in the summertime!
Those paddles look like a couple of rabbit ears. I think alligators eat rabbits.

@ Ah, the alligators aren't going to bother you during the day! They're usually laying on the banks sunning themselves!

The sign said don't feed the alligators. If they fall out of that boat, they'll be breaking the law, I'm afraid!

But, I'm not adverse to spinning a yarn every now and then!

I wouldn't even go walking or boating if alligators were about. Isn't it dangerous for you and your camera? Damn beautiful, though. Humid? Mosquitoes?
