I have it on good authority that these folks are Canadians. They went looking for the Northwest Passage, got lost, and somehow ended up here in central Florida. But they are an intrepid group, and refuse to give up. But it's a long haul. They're heading down the Silver River, which will run into the Oklawaha, which runs into the St. John's River, which empties into the Atlantic Ocean.
I'm guessing once they get to the Atlantic Ocean, they'll just head north and take their chances.
Yup - kust a sharp right turn and then keep heading north!
ReplyDeleteYou'd like the food at Salsa on St Clair and the dancing which is fabulous to watch!
Is it because of their red canoes?
ReplyDeleteNice shot. I hope they make it! Thanks for the comment about me growing up in a very nice place. Ponte Vedra Beach is a much different place now than it was when I was growing up. We called it Palm Valley and my granddaddy had cattle and hogs running through the area that is now Sawgrass. They lived on a dirt road that is now paved and lined with million dollar homes. It looks nothing like it did back in the good old days!
ReplyDeleteOh that's gonna be a L- O- N- G trip. But so far a beautiful one ( and when they quit while they're still in that river, I still bet they'll think it was worth it;)))!
ReplyDeleteGreat capture! :)
ReplyDeleteIf they're looking for the NWP in Florida I wouldn't bet on their turning in the right direction once they hit the Atlantic...
ReplyDeleteHope they have Superman strength arms!
ReplyDelete... or fly home.
ReplyDeleteThey are going to have muscular arms by the time they get there.
ReplyDeleteIt is just great how you take a photo and then come up with the text to go with it (at least I'm imaging that is how it works). Terrific image and fun to read all about it :).
ReplyDeleteLike your photo and even more your story...
ReplyDeleteThey have to be singing Stan Roger's Northwest Passage. That's the only way the mystic barriers will open up and allow entry into the passage.
ReplyDeleteLol Lowell, too funny!
ReplyDeleteTRUE story for sure, Lowell. And these Canadians will eventually find the Northwest Passage...although it may take a while. ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is a healthy, pleasant sailing, no matter how long it will take to their destination.
ReplyDeleteRow, row, row your boat,
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream.
On a different note, the boat people from Syria are in my prayers and thoughts.
Yoko
Is that the L O N G version of the story Lowell :) :)
ReplyDeleteI am happy to see life jackets on the kids, but the adults? River safety is a big deal here in MN for good reasons. Why not there, too?
ReplyDeleteI drove to Detroit once from Dayton, Ohio, and found us in Canada. We turned around and crossed a bridge into Detroit . We stayed over 30 years. We loved it and visited Canada often once I figured out how to go back and forth. My late wife insisted I should have asked the uniformed man, but he was wearing a gun, so we went away after telling him we were born in New York. I think he waved at us, so we left. Every time we visited Canada, some guy with a gun asked where we were born. I do not think they believed my wife was born there. She had no accent and I was certain that I didn’t have one either, but we did have a nice car, so he knew we had to be New Yorkers, but I do not know if he knew we were Jewish. I learned later that Jews only lived in the Northwestern end of Detroit only. Strange. How did they figure that out?
