Orange Lake Trading Post

Orange Lake is a small community a few miles north of Ocala. Highway 441 runs through the middle of town. Orange Lake has the largest junkyard (i.e. trading post) I've ever seen. Piles and piles of stuff. If you needed a part for some obscure machine of ancient memory, you might be able to find it here. Actually, while the place is rather interesting, it is an eyesore. But it's been in its current spot for years and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

  1. An interesting place -- somewhat of an eyesore, but I'm sure that's the last thing anyone thinks about!! Hope you're enjoying your weekend -- with or without any junk!!

  2. It is a shame, Lowell, how some people just don't care. It looks like an otherwise lovely place. So sad.

  3. I doubt I would have the patience to look for something in this trading post. I suffer from information overload.

  5. The term "chock-a-block" comes to mind. It looks like one needs to be a committed picker to find...well, whatever.

  6. Who knows what marvelous treasures might be hiding in all that old junk, or should I call it "collectables"? Interesting place, but since this is Florida, I might be wondering what wildlife is also living there.

  11. We have a similar place but they use the greyhound park parking lot for that one. It keeps it a bit hidden from the street.

  16. What a huge place and your right, there is plenty of 'stuff' there. My husband would happily spend hours there - not me :).

  18. There are people here in our RV Park who hit these flea markets at least once a week ...I don't get the attraction ( especially when you live in small spaces), but many people wouldn't miss them.

Did you see me waving when we breezed past Ocala on Our way home?

  21. This looks more like a flea market rather than a trading post, at least the ones with which I am familiar in the historic Southwest.
