Barking Up the Wrong Tree or Don't Fence Me In!

This beautiful canine lives on a mini horse farm about a mile from our house. The property is divided and fenced into several sections.

The center section contains a home, paddock and other smaller sheds. It has a front footage of about 150 feet.

When we ride by on our bikes, the dog runs out to greet us, then chases us, running up and down inside of the fence as fast as possible, barking all the while. We think it just wants to play.

When we all arrive at the end of the fence, the dog pushes its head out between the boards as if to say, sadly, "Goodbye!"

  11. Riding bikes--exercise for you. Running and chasing and barking--exercise for him. A happy deal all around.

  13. Isn’t it nice to be welcomed and to be missed that way? His last barking would have meant “Keep in touch!” “Barking up the wrong tree”, as an English learner, English idiom is interesting to imagine how it was coined
