Crepe myrtles are very popular here in central Florida. They add much beauty and color to the landscape. And they bloom for many months, although they do become "sticks" in the winter.
Like almost all bushes in central Florida, if you plant them and don't trim them, they will become trees.
These are just a few of the crepe myrtle bushes & trees in our neighborhood.
They do make for lovely blossoms!

ReplyDeleteI remember seeing our first Crepe Myrtle in a rest area near Ocala. I asked some passerby if he knew what it was and he looked at me as if I'd asked what a tree was -- apparently everybody knows these beautiful trees, but they don't grow in the Pacific Northwest.

ReplyDeleteWe were always told to trim them into the shape of an ice cream cone at the end of summer to keep the size manageable. They are lovely trees/bushes. :)

ReplyDeleteLovely photos of Crape myrtle. Crape myrtles are very popular in Japan, too. The flowers look inspiring when they bloom gloriously despite scorching heat. Their name is “Sarusuber” (monkey-slips) perhaps due to the slippery-looking smooth bark with which monkeys can slip down and is written 百日紅 in Chinese Characters meaning “one-hundred-day crimson”. Crape myrtle will bloom soon in Nara. When I see the blossoms, I'll think of you.
