Requiem for a forest
Up until a few weeks ago, this acreage was a beautiful forest filled with oaks and pines and a variety of bushes. It abuts one of Trilogy's trails.
Then, suddenly bulldozers appeared out of nowhere and knocked it all down, which, in my opinion, is a tragedy of monumental proportions and was doubtless made possible because some developer got the County Commissioners to approve a project which will make him a lot of money while destroying precious trees.
Although I've asked around, I have been unable to determine what the land will be used for. One rumor suggests it will be a large set of storage facilities for people who have more junk than they can store in their homes. You've probably heard the phrase "ostentatious consumption," which is often an apt designation of some citizens of this fair land.
The final fly in the ointment is that they've been burning the trees they knocked down filling the air with smoke making it hard to breathe in certain nearby areas.
This past weekend has been especially busy for myself and Lois Anne, so I'm a bit behind on my commenting. Also, with regard to the previous post featuring a bunch of chairs, those who guessed that it was a dentist's office were correct!
I makes me so mad when "they" knock down all the trees---no trees-we die---we need them. GRRRRRR!!
ReplyDeleteAs for you being called 'spectabilis dicentra I think you are wrong. Maybe you have been called a spectacle or you made a spectacle of yourself (most likely) or you were dissenting but you are not a bleeding heart---(only a liberal)

ReplyDeleteUn saluto, silvia
It is horrible how nature is being destroyed under construction. Parks are shrinking etc.
ReplyDeleteI'm really sorry that you lost the beautiful forest. And for what reason .. just to make some get richer ..
I would never have guessed that the previous room was a dental waiting room. So many patients are waiting for their turn. It feels like a big dental center.
Andamos a destruir o nosso belo planeta.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e boa semana.

...And they call it progress. Go figure...
ReplyDeleteIn North Carolina, these days, cleared land often means a mattress factory!

...'progress' in the making!
ReplyDeleteA perfect poster for greed and profit. What a sad scene!
ReplyDeleteThis is horrible. But it's happening everywhere. Progress? At what cost?
ReplyDeleteThings like this make me so sad I could cry Lowell and it happens all too often 😢 When will it all stop! Surely the wood could have been used for something instead of just being burnt?
ReplyDeleteA sad sight indeed, Lowell! And for a storage building!
ReplyDeleteI am fine and everyone I know seems to be okay. The incident happened in the north end of the city and I am downtown most of the time. Thanks for thinking of me.
It is very sad as little by little we are externating everything, we do not realize the evil that we are doing, or we stop or go to the day when the earth is a great desert.
ReplyDeleteBuen martes Lowell.
Un abrazo.
Stuff like this should be a crime. It won't be of course, because those passing the laws are the very ones doing this or the ones getting favors because of it.
ReplyDeleteDevelopers only care about adding more money to their accounts, and don't give a damn about the consequences of their action. And too often local authorities just give the bastards a free pass.
ReplyDeleteIt's really depressing to see this. Sad to realise another beautiful area is gone.
ReplyDeleteSad to see more nature being destroyed.
ReplyDeleteSad, very sad. Greed, the all powerful destruction tool of mankind!
ReplyDeleteWe lost a chunk of forested land a year or two ago in the same way. All of a sudden the trees disappeared, four or five acres. I hoped that it was for something interesting or useful. But it quickly became a long strip of storage units. Just what everyone was desperate for...
ReplyDeleteSo sad to see this.... when will we ever learn!
ReplyDeleteI hate this!!! So sorry.
ReplyDeleteSad...
