It is a rather old fashioned way of computing taxes. On one of my visits to London, I went into a book store that used an abacus to total up your purchase. I think they tourists bought books there just so they could see them total up a purchase.

I'd find it reassuring to know my accountant had options, especially ancient ones.

I learned how to count on a toy abacus.

Ha! One of my first questions to them would be how familiar are they with the most up-to-date tax laws.
