Publix Supermarket

On the right is the fish, meat and dairy aisle at our local Publix Supermarket. It was a slow day - not many people shopping.

What a friend we have in Jesus...

It always amazes me how people can hold totally contradictory views at the same time. Notice the Confederate flag, a symbol of slavery and the animals, probably a reference to the NRA and its perverted interpretation of the 2nd Amendment. The Jesus of the Gospels would be a friend of neither but would bitterly denounce both the slavery flag and the guns of the NRA.

The Very Large Shrimp

If you've had your fill of turkey, how's about a little shrimp?

La Cuisine

La Cuisine is an authentic French restaurant in downtown Ocala. It opened several years ago, and has established itself as the place to go if you want real French food. The owners/operators are from France so they know what they're doing. We have eaten here on a couple of occasions and found it to be delightful, if a little pricey.

Rainy Day at Last

It's been a long time since we've had a rainy day. So when this one came along, we were happy.

Faux Flamingos in a Pile

The story goes like this: A flock of faux flamingos was soaring over Ocala on a Sunday afternoon. One of the NRA's local mental midgets woke up from an alcohol-induced slumber, looked out the window and saw what he thought were Russian jets (a little pink, but close enough), so he grabbed his AK-47 (used only for hunting, of course) and blasted the flamingos out of the sky. When they fell, they landed in a pile.

This is the pile.

Parking Lot Hog

Some people hog the highways and drive as if there's no one else on the road.  Others hog parking lots and park their vehicles as if no one else needs a parking space.

This photo illustrates the latter.  It appears this person has hogged a total of EIGHT OR NINE parking spaces on a very busy day at Lowe's.

The Oak House at Ocala Trilogy Preserve Resort

These shots were taken on different days at different times.  The first photo shows the entrance to the Oak House from the parking lot, and the last photo is the entrance to the Golf Club

Some might say the Oak House is the "heart" of the Trilogy resort here in Ocala.  It contains a huge "living room" with fireplace and multiple seating arrangements; the Eagles Nest which offers a large-screen TV, gaming tables, a pool table, and a golf pro shop; a gym with every piece of body-building equipment you could imagine; a spa; a restaurant and bar; a mail room; and a concierge who is available at all times to assist in meeting your needs.

Murphy

I think Murphy is one of those dogs trained to know when a person is going to have a diabetic attack.  Our niece has one and the dog has saved her life a number of times.  Or he could be some other type of service dog.

Mall Santa

It's not even the middle of November, but Santa is busy visiting shopping malls all over the world. This allows him to get an idea of the gifts the elves must put together by Christmas Eve, and also provides an opportunity for kids to tell Santa their hearts desire and get their pictures "taken with Santa." Santa watched me take this photo, and smiled big-time. Good Santa!

Posing as Pumpkins

If you thought these were real pumpkins, you were wrong. (You also need to get your eyes checked!) No, these are actors. Their only roles are to pose as pumpkins. They've tried to get other roles in the movies and on TV shows, but they've had no luck.

So, every fall they come out about Thanksgiving time and pose as pumpkins.  Unfortunately, as I've told them, they probably won't ever win an Oscar because they're acting is so wooden.

A Golf Headache

For those of you who do not play golf, this may look like an easy shot. People who play golf know this is a major headache. Real golf has a rule which states you must play the ball as it lies. In this case, it lies buried in sand and under the lip of the sand trap. It's an almost impossible shot, which thus makes it a major golf headache and one good reason a golfer should always carry aspirin in his/her golf bag!

Initially, I did not intend to identify the golfer, but what the heck, he's my friend ... let's call him Walt.

Party Time

Overlooking the lake at the Ocala Preserve Trilogy Resort, it's party time at this house. As you can see, a well-lubricated and rather large frog was having too good a time! Maybe.

Antique Ford

This antique is, I believe, a Ford from the late 30s - I'm guessing '36 or  '37. I'm hoping my friend at Taken for Granted will give us all the details. What an amazing mind he has!

On the road again...

We spotted this vehicle in downtown Deland, Florida. I'm not sure what to make of it. At first glance I thought it to be carrying some sort of medical equipment. But I'm not sure. It does appear to be ready for long-distance travel.

McAlister's Deli

We arrived at McAlister's Deli when most patrons had finished eating or had not yet arrived.  McAlister's is most busy during the lunch hour.  We enjoy the place because the food is good, it's delivered fast and the prices are right.

What's for dinner?

This was not posed. Cleo loves to be in the middle of things. She jumped up on the chair and gave me a questioning look. Fortunately, my small camera was close at hand.

It takes two to...well, you know...

This is on a fairly busy road in northwest Ocala.  I'm not sure why but perhaps it was put here so people who need to go can still watch the endless parade of cars and trucks that roar up and down the road.

And it's quite warm in this part of Florida, even in November, so someone was thoughtful enough to bring a ceiling fan.  In order for the system to work, it takes two people: one on the pot and one holding up the ceiling fan above the one on the pot.

Florida is really a fun place to live at times.

More roll than rock

These animals are found in our local mall. They have wheels so that youngsters can straddle them and roll around a specific area. Getting onto them involves quite a bit of rocking, but they are mostly about rolling and look like a lot of fun.

I asked the guy running this operation if I could try riding one of them.  He mumbled something about me being older that Methuselah and how I'd probably fall off and break my neck!

I thought that was kind of rude, to say the least.

The theme for November is "Rock & Roll."  You can check out how other City Daily Photo bloggers interpreted the theme here.
"Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again." — Henri Cartier-Bresson
