Dan Kuhn is running for sheriff...

...or NOT!

This huge temporary advertisement has been placed along Hwy 200 in Ocala for several weeks now. Dan Kuhn, now an under-sheriff, wants to be elected as sheriff of Marion County. But there is a problem. The federal government has become involved and says it is illegal for him to run for sheriff and he must either give up his candidacy or quit his job. A person cannot be a candidate for a partisan office (he's running as a member of a political party) while still overseeing parts of an agency that benefits from federal funding.

Mr. Kuhn and his supporters are trying to work with the feds so that he can keep his job and still run for sheriff ... I guess he wouldn't want to lose the election and no longer have a job.

WOW! A real catch 22!

That doesn't seem fair somehow. How come a president can re-run for president while he's still president?

Sounds a little fishy to me. Most of our government workers are in office when they seek office, somehow that doesn't stop them. I gather your undersheriff is not an appointed office but one you obtain by merit. All seems a tad silly to me.

I don't quite get this problem. If being on the public payroll was a disqualifier, we would lose a lot of incumbents. Come to think of it, I could go for that . . .

That will be interesting to see how it works out. You'd think a candidate would know such details before running for office.

I do hate all the election signs. Good shot.

Nice way of advertising.

Since he's got quite some ambition he should run straight for president, why not? :)
I don't recall having seen before a semi-trailer as standing advertisement, interesting idea but might be a tad more expensive, no?
God bless you!

I certainly don't want to wish our famous sheriff on anyone else (that would be so cruel) but, this seems such a minor thing compared to the outragious, spot-light grabbing actions of our teflon coated sheriff! (Don't get me started.)

I guess Ocala will have to decide whether they want a Sheriff who doesn't think the rules apply to him. That ought to be difficult.

That is strange.
Speaking of Sheriffs and strange.....well, that's another story.
