Florida "Gator" mailbox

The word, "fan," comes from the word, "fanatic." Many people in Ocala are alumni of the University of Florida. The football team at the U of F is known as the "Gators." Many alumni of the U of F are fans of the football team. They are fanatical! They paint their cars with Gator colors, they wear Gator-colored clothes, the fly Gator flags from their homes, etc.

Then there's at least one fan who bought an old mailbox and turned it into a Gator mailbox.

Football often comes to rule at some universities. Ask Penn State. Are universities institutions of learning and research or are they professional sports teams?

Yikes! It's too early in the morning for such a scary sight. They should really go with a much better color combination like Garnet and Gold :)

I think it's ok to be proud of your team, as long as it's not to the denigration of other teams. :)

I don't know a thing about football and I am not a "fan". But I do like the idea of using an old P.O. mailbox for a home mail box. Nice and safe but I wonder if people try to mail letters in it.

Oh yes "Taken..." The Penn State massacre reveals a nasty underbelly of collegiate sports. We all know it's there, the powers that be turn a blind eye. The football teams make so much $$$$ for these universities , they have almost a sranglehold on parts of the schools. Cripes! Colleges are suppose to be places of higher learning. NOT football factories. Sorry about the rant! Now, just don't get me started about the Olympics!!!

I never understand this whole American fascination with college sports. It is so unlike the university culture here in Canada.
Love your posterized shot - works so well. I have played around with a few shots after seeing some of yours - great fun.

The FL basketball team is pretty good, too. Nice shot.

Cool treatment here, Lowell.

Love the new header! And those are the best-looking mailboxes I've seen in a long time. I hope no mailbox bashing goes on in Ocala. ;>)

Well done posterizing effect, Lowell.

In Columbus, there were many crazy Buckeye fans. I actually liked the atmosphere. It was very much different from what I had experience myself in college or being around Connecticut sports as I have for the past three decades.

I guess being a fan makes people feel like they belong to something greater than themselves.
