Old city post

I couldn't find much on the history of these old limestone posts (they flank one of Ocala's older streets) but I'm guessing they were city markers from when Ocala was a much smaller place.

Looks like some historic place. Beautiful composition and I also like the texture sensation of that limestone!

They are very rustic. Makes Ocala seem older than it probably is. ;)

It's Ocala's mystery. I get frustrated when I make a find like this one and can't discover any history about it.

I'm curious to know more.

they make for nice boundary markers.

Good to see they are still around!

The delicate flowers against the rustic limestone is a beautiful contrast.

It is fun to find these old markers and imagine the people building them. They had great civic pride.

Stormy weather today?

Yes. And they were meant to pass the test of time, too. Long after the streets of Ocala and the hobbit like dwellings have gone and the real estate is, literally, under water, this post will remain.

It's wonderful that they have survived.

Kinda cool to see though.

High Maintenance--oh I thought you were talking about my daughters. Jolene has a Dodge Ram with a huge lift kit black and shiny---why she needs a truck like that I don't know. It is really fun to get in and out of--yeah right!!
All my daughters have trucks---was something missing in their childhood? We din't have a car either--when they were little---just trucks. MB

Very interesting low point composition you got there! We didn't see any limestone posts around here [ or maybe there is but we just missed it ] :D

I remember seeing these from time to time around California when I was younger. They're from the days when there were stone masons, many of whom were real artisans. Remember them?

Looks like the gatepost to the city.

That is just amazing.

It looks old, like it has been there for many, many years.

How is the storm Isaac behaving in Ocala?

It is a charming post. I didn't think Ocala had anything that old. Except, maybe you.
