Sometimes when driving down the street you notice a disaster waiting to happen. That's how I felt when I came up behind this mess, and I wasn't comfortable until I could get around him and he became a blip in my rearview mirror!
Whoa... I'm impressed you stayed calm enough to snap a good picture! And glad you got around this safely. Surprised he didn't get stopped and ticketed ...look how those boards are sticking way out on the side, plus not being tied down well.
I see clues to a tiedown and those vertical pieces on the right may be nailed down but it's lazy at best and plenty precarious at worst. I wouldn't stick around long enough to take a picture and I'd certainly consider a 911 call.
I would have done just what you did. Around noon today, a pile of pipes fell off a truck in the tunnel under downtown Hartford, closing it to traffic for about an hour. These things happen.

Looks a bit illegal.
Lowell you should have stayed behind this accident waiting to happen. You would have had some great photos... maybe even a flat tire. ;)
aye yie yie.
I agree. Stay clear.
Guess this photo gives the lie to something being well-stacked.
WOW! Nothing is tied down here! I guess he's not planning on going over any bumps pr turning any corners.
uh-oh, I see he thinks he has his load tied down but is isn't so. He's looking at a ticket for sure. MB
I am sure it fell shortly after your shot. Hopefully not when you were behind it.
Oh wow, I don't blame you. I'd want to be away from that too.
Definitely not a comfortable spot! I don't know what people are thinking sometimes... in fact, I guess they aren't thinking!
I don't think it would have got very far down the road here before being pulled over by the boys in blue!
Doesn't look like they put much thought into loading that trailer. There is one piece that must have fell off shortly after you shot this.
That is the first time I have ever seen the license plate displayed at that angle.
Ou ou, looks a bit dangerous! Something like this is not permitted here (fortunately)!!
Lowell, you have shown great courage!!!

There is always that sense of entitlement!
Oh, gosh, that does look like an accident waiting to happen. I really like your new header.
I would have been scared. I think I'd have changed my route...
We have those tree haulers here and I have seen more than one shift a load and smash a car.

Ps: did you shout "TIMBER!" as you drove past?! ;-)
In fact, it looks dangerous!

Not even a red flag on the back!
Good decision.

What a dangerous mess! Some people just don't give a damn.
