Police K-9 Unit

Some Ocala police officers are allowed to take their cars home when their shift is over. This vehicle is used with the department's K-9 unit.

I've read that part of the rationale is that it keeps neighborhoods safer when people know a police officer lives nearby. I wonder if this one takes the dog home as well.

That is a different model than what we see here.

So they are on duty 24x7!

Always enjoy seeing working dogs with security services. The dogs are happy being useful, and most importantly, they are not after me. We use to have police living in our neighborhood and I felt good about their being there.

I've seen Sheriff Dept. vehicles parked regularly in front of homes around here, too. (Am I imagining it or are these kind of fancy wheels for a police vehicle?)

It is a nice vehicle...good size, too.

Like the K-9 units and any working animal.

Looks just like our police cars. Here, the police dogs live with the officer that they are assigned to, so they go home with them every day.

Having that car in your driveway is better than a house alarm.
Oh good heavens, I see someone already said that.

I know people who have a man of blue as a neighbor and they like having his presence on their street.

This must work out well especially for the K-9 unit since the dogs usually live with the officers.
