Unusual Florida architecture

On our way to the Arts & Crafts Festival

We waited here for the police to give us permission to cross the road to attend the annual Ocala Arts & Crafts Festival. The crowd was made up of a number of interesting people.

Airboat at rest

Airboats, which are flat craft powered by an aircraft engine in the rear, are used throughout Florida, especially in the Everglades in the south, but also in swampy areas and places like the flats of Cedar Key. They ride high and skim across water and grass without getting hung up as would a regular boat.

They are very loud! This one looks relatively new and was located in the yard of one of our neighbors.

The Sanctuary

The Sanctuary, located just east of Ocala on Highway 27, is a rehab center for horses, providing a plethora (I love that word) of treatments for ailing equines. The center also provides therapy for hurting canines.

It is a rather incredible operation and you can read all about it here.

Going, going, gone!

While Lois Anne was shopping in a bookstore I relaxed on a bench. Naturally, I had a camera. These electricians arrived with their hoisting machine; drove up the sidewalk and then back again. On their way back, they stopped and disappeared through a hole in the roof. I don't know what happened to them after that as Lois Anne appeared and we went on our way. But I had captured their electric antics with my trusty camera!

Three scenes from Sholom Park and the Kreativ Blogger Award

We have posted a few photos of Sholom Park previously. Sholom Park, just west of downtown Ocala, is a beautiful meditational park, designed and donated by a local developer. Much more information about this facility is available here.

Kreativ Blogger Award

Merci beaucoup to Nefertiti for this beautiful Kreativ Blogger award. Please check out her blog, Le Temple de Nefertiti, here and her other blog, Une photo un souvenir, here.

McAlister's Deli

McAlister's Deli is relatively new to Ocala, having opened a few months ago in one of our new shopping areas. It offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, pizzas, and other accouterments. McAlister's is clean, comfy and the food is good. We have patronized the place on numerous occasions and would give it an "A" rating.

The Samuel Building

Located in downtown Ocala, the Samuel Building is loaded with lawyers.
