Parrots at Silver Springs Park

There is a rather large entry area coming in to Silver Springs Park. Visitors walk over a bridge and then across a wide open area before buying tickets and going through the gates. Just as one crosses the bridge, you will almost always find a couple of parrots sitting perched on a tree off to the right. They are not tethered in any way and you can get close and talk to them. That's fine. But if you understand what they are saying, you may wish to see professional help.

These two parrots didn't talk to us at all. They simply sat there in regal splendor and one of them actually turned as if to ignore us totally.

But they were pretty. I understand their wings have been clipped so they can't fly away.

This is not a photo, it is a triumph of colors!
Great shot and really funny post.

They are gorgeous - I suppose they know that, too.

The colors are fantastic! What beautiful birds, but then I think all birds are beautiful anyway!

They make a wonderful photo sitting there in all their splendor.

@Lois - you know, sometimes being "for the birds" is a really good thing!

They are so beautiful! I always say that I keep my pet birds at the zoo. There was a hyacinth macaw at the Tulsa Zoo that once told me to, "Shut-up!"

Lowell said...

@ Lisa - Did you? Shut up? LOL

They are beautiful, though I feel sad about the clipped wings.

What beautiful birds. Do you have wild populations of any tropical birds that far south. Atlanta has parakeets and we have nutmeg mannikins, I would be surprised to learn you didn't have something.

@PJ - No, I think there are some parrots that got loose in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Lots of little green parrots down there, too.

We have a wild flock of parrots flying around San Deigo and they are the green ones ones as well. Beautiful birds...my Aunt had one and he was the "nicest" bird til he bit my uncles finger almost off!

Lowell said...

They can be a problem; not so nice when he's got uncles' finger in his beak!

Macaws are simply stunning! I was very lucky to have visited the Manu Biosphere in the peruvian Amazonia, where they are by the hundreds allways flying above our heads.

Wonderful color aren't they? Isn't it a shame we have to clip their wings to be able to enjoy them...I have lovely colorful lorikeets that come to visit the gum trees at my place in Australia. I ma enjoying the weather, spring blossoms and architecture in NYC at the moment!
