Just in time for the after-Thanksgiving sales which begin tomorrow (Black Friday), the Belk store in the Paddock Mall has added security gates to all of their entrances and exits. If you try to leave the store with an item that has not been paid for, an electronic device will start wailing loudly, alerting everyone to your chicanery!
I watched as these were installed a couple of days ago.

I'm in late to wish you a good Thanksgiving for your family and especially your daughter.
About security, in Montpellier, we are watched by a lot of cameras on the town but there are not policemen enough so....
Sign of the times, I suppose. Most if not all of the department stores have them installed already. In Stanwood--none. No big stores anyway. Sometimes they ding at me when I walk in---must be my heart of gold. MB
sign of times...
re your query on my post .. yes sure will take pics and post
Holiday season is coming....but don't most major stores have these detectors already?
A bale of hay here is--Local hay--$5 to $7 dollars a bale\Eastern Washington hay--
orchard grass: $18.00
Alfalfa: $15.00
Alfalfa grass mix: $17.00
Timothy $18.00
We buy mostly good local horse hay.
Swoon Yes!! So keep digging.
Heart of gold---no laughing now!!! MB
Eastern Washington Hay grown in the hotter drier climate is supposed to have more protein and nutrients for horses as opposed to cow hay--which is different. But nowadays more farmers are growing special horse hay on this side of the mts. and our horses do well on it so we feed it. One reason for the difference in price is the hauling fees from on side of the state up over the mts to this siOr so they say. Gas etcetra. MB
the modern way to shop!
These are everywhere here.
What I hate about these things is when they go off because the clerk didn't de-acivate the alarm thingy in the item and then you have to stop while someone goes through all your stuff while every one else stares at you. Other than that, they are great! LOL
Hope your Thanksgiving was yummy!
Regarding the 'Global Conspiracy/Crisis': Here many members of the different governments that have ruled this country get fantastic well paid jobs in banks and private/public companies after leaving politics. This tells us why many decisions are taken in favour of the 'big guys'. It's immoral and revolting and there is nothing we can do as there is no law against it... of course!!!
As I wrote on Giulia's blog, I don't really mind cameras as we have so many security problems in my country now.
You just can't trust those fast-moving and larcenous geezers, Jacob!
Hope you have a great weekend.
"Security" is haunting my mind for years now... We are more and more surrounded by devices and technology and the feeling of being unsafe is just distressing...
God bless you!

My sister-in-law took me to a few Black Friday sales yesterday! OH MY! What a zoo filled with interesting characters!
But I have to say, even though those devices were going off in several stores, no one seemed to care. My sister-in-law bought a couple of cheap DVDs that set the alarm off. She went back in to prove that she'd paid for them and was told not to worry about it. Hmmm. I wouldn't be surprised to learn the store lost a bit to shoplifting on Black Friday.
