This bench, located at the Preserve of Spruce Creek golf course, was established as a memorial to a Jim Reed, born December 13, 1938 and died July 4, 2003. I would assume that Mr. Reed was an avid golfer and supporter of the Preserve of Spruce Creek golf course.

It is a fine looking bench, and the memorial to Mr. Reed is touching. I just wish they had found a better way to affix a plaque so it didn't add to the discomfort of the people who use the bench.

I've always thought that that was a nice idea - especially in a spot that was special to you and the departed friend.
This is so much better than a gravestone.
This seems more practical to me than a big stone angel (or, more to my taste, a labrador retriever) standing watch over a grave.
Such a lovely way to honor a loved one's memory.
As for the lighthouse, you can go inside during certain times of the year, and for a couple of dollars, you can climb to the top. The grounds are open to the public year-round.
Perhaps you'll get yours as a golf fan !

A very nice looking, and useful, memorial.
These memorial benches are nice. Not only do they pay tribute to a loved one, they give passersby a place to relax and reflect. Nice shot.
I would love to see a picture of that baby mini donkey! They are very cute and getting quite popular.
As for the Quincy tree hugger kids, the boy is our grandson and the girl is a daughter-in-law.

Maybe he just sat and watched the golfers. It's a nice tribute to Jim whatever he did.
I read that article you sent. Yikes, maybe I should move away. It certainly doesn't paint a pretty picture and those comments about our politics ring very true. It's why we have such gun crazy people here. When things start to break down, they want to be able to shoot the rest of us.
I like the idea of having a memorial bench. A nice way to be remembered.
