AJ's on the Square

AJ's on the Square is located in downtown Ocala, across from the city square. When we first moved to Ocala it was named the Tin Cup Tavern. A few years ago, Tin Cup went out of business and another entrepreneur set up a music store on the premises. That did not last long and for the past year and a half it has been a bar known as AJ's, run by Amanda Tillander, whose father, Bobby Tillander, is a well-known club owner in Ocala.  Currently he is said to own the Ocala Entertainment Complex.

Unfortunately, back in the beginning of June an Ocala man shot three men to death outside of AJ's on an early Sunday morning.  The four men had been drinking together in AJ's, and the shootings occurred after they exited the premises.  Reportedly, this was a revenge shooting as the gunman claimed he was humiliated by the three men he killed.  The three victims all worked as bouncers at the Ocala Entertainment Complex.

I've not heard whether or not this incident has affected business at AJ's.

Oh goodness, what a story! :S

There was a place in Jackson called AJ's on the Lake. They probably have nothing to do with each other, but the food there was good.

Nothing good happens after midnight. Throw in alcohol and it can be a deadly cocktail.

Alcohol seldom leads to good decision making, and your story demonstrates this once again. Looks like an interesting bar despite the shooting.

If there are no surviving witnesses and the person who shot the three others claimed that he feared being shot by them, he could probably use Florida's Stand Your Ground law to et off free.

Bouncers bounced!

I see that Dave has already commented on state of laws in Florida (and other states, you aren't alone). I swear we are headed back to the "wild west" era and there is a growing number of people (nee: idiots) who'd love to see that happen.

Fools with guns!

This doesn't happen at Panera. It also rarely happens at 4:30 in the afternoon.

Wow! And they call our area the 'wild west'! Our laws on concealed weapons has changed also, making it legal to carry just about anywhere.

What ever happened to solving your drunken problems by fisticuffs. Guns are so so deadly. I don't approve of either-- just saying.
A fool and his gun are soon.....dead.

Our weather has been wonderful. sunny and very warm---for here. high 70's and some days low 80s. A very slight breeze to keep is just right. But that marine air gums up the works sometimes. this morning it is a tad foggy but it will burn off and be nice again. but I do like bright sunny mornings. And that is that. MB

Hmmmm... What was this story about guns?

Geeze Louise! Yes. Terrible story. Terrible outcome. Guns? Yeah. They're a big problem. But, hey. Killing three people by any means because they "humiliate" you? Uh uhn. I'm sure people can be truly cruel, but who started our race back to being cavemen?

That's horrible.
