Railroad trestle

We still have trains that rumble through Ocala occasionally. In fact, we could hear the train whistles from where we used to live in East Ocala.

But some of Florida's elected officials are monumentally stupid.  First, our governor declined federal monies for the Medicaid program which means many people - the elderly and the young - will be left without health insurance.  Now, this guy (along with a subservient state legislature) has decided to accept millions and millions of federal dollars to build a high-speed rail line down I-95 to Miami, as well as across the central part of the state through Orland to Tampa.

There are a couple of problems with this.  For one, federal money will cover only part of the cost.  The rest will be absorbed by Florida's taxpayers.  Secondly, we already have train service to Miami and across the state to Orlando, Tampa, Ocala, Lakeland and other places.  It's called  Amtrak!

[It should be noted also that the governor fought any kind of high-speed rail service tooth and nail up until just recently.  Something changed.  Past is prologue so far as he goes, so follow the money!]

Follow the money indeed. They flipflop like that, and there's a benefit to them in some form. The governor sounds like what I'll say in a more polite term... a real jerk.

That trestle reminds me of a few I've seen here.

"Monumentally stupid" is a polite way to put it. And best stay polite.

What changed is that he is running for re-election. Hopefully he will not be successful.

There is a train track that runs behind my neighborhood and I love hearing the whistle as the train goes by, especially at night.

Let's hope you as well as us here in New Mexico get a new Governer. Nice shot.

"Ocala (Florida) Photos" has been included in the Sites To See for this week. Be assured that I hope this helps to point many new visitors in your direction.

He was elected, right?

I like the road. Making me want to cruise the USA...

Cash talks, and people tend to listen... but I do love the sound of a distant train whistle.

These vicious sharks prey on people all over the world! We have our share of them too!

I used see lots of trestles like this one where I grew up in Illinois.
Florida and Arizona have very similar elected officials.

Some greased his palm. I know we voted these totally dumb people in but usually they ran on one platform and then changed gears as soon as they were elected. totally maddening.

BTW: It is a veritable photographers playground out this way. Come on out to the valley. but then again your area has wonderful birds and skies and STUFF too.

It's sad that these people get elected.
Love the picture though. Like Sharon, it reminds me of my home town.

Could be a shot of an Ontario roadway, Lowell!

Wonder why he had a sudden change of heart....$?

That said, trestle is one of my favorite-sounding words.

That guy is such an embarrassing crook. We only console ourselves by saying that at least we didn't decide to move to Arizona.

Hmmmm. Why am I suspecting a bit of graft here?
