Crispers

Crispers is a soup/salad/sandwich restaurant near the Paddock Mall.  Eight or nine years ago we stopped for lunch but did not have a happy experience...it was crowded, noisy and the food was so-so.  We never went back:

Until the other day, when we decided to try it again.

This time there were only a few people in the restaurant, and it was quite pleasant - clean and attractive. Lois had a flatbread pizza thingy that looked like a piece of cardboard with crushed roadkill. Not at all appetizing and not very tasty, either. I had a Cuban sandwich that was excellent.

We'll probably try it again, but Lois will order another menu item!

Perhaps new management has helped things along.

For absolutely wonderful sandwiches go to Mary’s Cuban kitchen and bakery in the Jasmine Center. They have a Friday night special, which I actually prefer to their wonderful Cuban. Irene likes their pork sandwich very much. We never had anything there that wasn’t better than good, fresh and on their own baked bread and products.

The bakery products are also excellent and freshly made, I love the coffee and the owners and the help. Most of the customers at lunch speak Spanish but are cheerful and friendly. They have been there a long time and added a buffet lunch to their menu. The normal hours end around three but they are open one night until later, Ii forgot which night. (I forgot it way before I reached 88, so my short tem memory was never good, but my long term has always been good.)

Try it you will like it.

I'd sticking to salads and sandwiches in places like this. Should be their speciality, and if they aren't good then stay away. But from your photos, it looks fine.

Yeah, I hate those roadkill wraps! Dang. Too bad because it does look like a good stop for lunch on a shopping day. They're hard to find.

It is often hard to find tasty vegetarian food in a place like that but I'm sure Lois is familiar with that problem! ;-)

I've been hungry for a Cuban sandwich ever since I saw "Chef." I haven't seen them in the Pacific Northwest, but then again we're not in a culinary hotspot here...sigh...

They have Pepsi, can't be all bad.

Looks like a nice enough place.
I hope next time Lois Anne has a better experience.

Sorry to read that Lois's experience was not as good as yours! I don't know what a Cuban sandwich is so will Google it. :)

Was the salad crisp? Nothing worse than a soggy salad.

You've describe that flat bread so well that now I'm not hungry any more.

I love your review: do it again, please!

There are some places you just don't want to give on, but sometimes you have to. Not sure I'd go back.

I'd rather visit a busy resto than an empty one. But glad you had a better experience this time!
