Brolly in the Sun

No, I'm not British, but I love the word, "brolly," which in British-speak means "umbrella," or something thereabouts.

This gentleman is holding a brolly. It is not raining, nor is it forecast to rain. The sun is shining and the gulls are pooping in the lake.

So, the question is, "Why?"

1. He has a brolly fetish.

2. He likes to hold something in his hand while standing.

3. It is remotely possible that it will rain in the next 24 hours.

4. It might rain next week.

5. A passing gull might unload on his head.

6. He thinks he looks handsome when holding a brolly.

7. He wants to look jaunty like the owner of this blog. (See profile photo)

8. His wife told him to hold the brolly while she went shopping.

9. He found it in the trash, saw that it was in good condition, and is testing it out.

10. He doesn't have a clue why he's holding a brolly.

P.S.  I'm adding this after the posting:  while it had occurred to me he was using the umbrella to ward off the sun to avoid skin cancer, I simply forgot to throw it in the mix.  Some good friends brought it to mind.  So that would be No. 11.  I should also add that skin cancer is a huge problem here in Florida.

11. He thinks if he holds it long enough he can pull a Mary Poppins and start flying.

He's cool and wants everyone to know he's a 21st century man!
Thanks for the well wishes concerning my cataract surgery. It went well and I'm back home now.

He's got a bald spot and he doesn't want to get it sunburned.

He may want sun protection. Considering I'm on my third variety of skin cancer I can attest that any ol' kind of sun protection helps.

He does not like the sun

Most likely it is because of the sun and yes, skin cancer is a big problem here in the sunshine state. I've had a few close calls and that is why I'm on a first name basis with my dermatologist!

We see a lot of brollys in Pasadena, even on sunny days. UV rays can be tough stuff!

Your P.S. was my first thought. But I have sun sensitive skin, and see my dermatologist on a regular basis. He is not cheap, but his is life saving.

I think the fact that he has a 'brolly' (I like the word too), makes your photograph more interesting. Really like the editing too. Oh, and I vote for sun protection too :).

Here in Arizona it's to ward of the intense heat of the sun. (And, skin cancer.)

I'm absolutely going with number 11 Lowell, same thing here in Perth.. brollies in summer are a common sight, as is skin cancer sadly!

I would say #11.

Even in this wet country on the west coast people hold umbrellas to hide from the sun. No we do NOT use umbrellas when it rains.---go figure

The dome house is puzzling to me. It sits out in a field and by the road a sign says "testing Sight" ACME----that is all, folks.

Umbrella as the protection from the sun..

Probably the sun -- and brolly sounds a lot more dashing that parasol, which is what my southern-born mother told me a 'lady should always carry in the sun'.... (But none of us would ever do that.)
