Wagon Wheel Benches - Brownwood, The Villages, Florida

The Villages is a huge municipal complex, consisting of three main "hometowns" and hometown areas. The first was Spanish Springs; then came Lake Sumter Landing; and relatively recently, Brownwood. I'm not certain of the statistics as The Villages continues to grow at a rapid pace, but suffice it to say that there are probably some 50,000 homes and many more people and just as many golf cars.

Brownwood has a western theme and so the downtown area resembles an old west town, which is rather funny, because we are about as far east in the United States as one could get!

At any rate, wagon wheel benches are part of the "western" theme and thus you'll find a number of them in the Brownwood downtown.

A hometown theme for a village, what a concept. Is there a village for idiots there too? :)

Thank you for always nice information.
Current Japan time is midnight.
New Year's Day is a very important day for the Japanese people.
In Japanese, New Year is called "oshougatsu", and the very first day of the year is called "gantan".
People decorate their houses with special decorations.
"Kadomatsu", two groups of bamboo to place in front of the entrance; "shimenawa", a sacred straw rope to protect the door; and "kagamimochi, round, piled up mochi (rice cakes) to appreciate and eat as a token of wellbeing.
Families with young children often send New Year's Cards with a family photo or a picture of their children.

I see a lot of benches like these in this part of the country. Brownwood seems an unusual name to me. It makes me think they were going to call it "Deadwood" and then thought that might not be appropriate so they decided on Brownwood instead. Why brown? Because dead wood usually is brown. What do yo think?
