The seagull soaring from the sky
Saw the funky pelican
And laughed and laughed
And then it laughed some more
That pelican, said the gull,
Is such a funny-looking bird
It cannot sing, it cannot soar...
So cook it in a frying pan
The pelican got really mad
Went to work, made a plan
I'll grab the mouthy, ugly gull
With my great big beak
I'll make it pay, I can, I can,
Hell yes I can
For I'm a feisty pelican.
And the gull was never seen again.

...standing proud!
There's a lesson to be learnt here, never insult a feisty pelican π Your poetry skills are to be much admired Lowell, unlike mine that are to be much mocked πππ
Your poem, oh, wise and talented sage? Great photo; love the luminous water.
Pelicans, iconic Florida. Wonder how much plastic is in his belly.

Never mess with a pelican! ;-)
You made me laugh out loud. I love that poem. And, I love feisty pelicans.
It's a gorgeous photo! Like the poem too :)
I love pelicans and first saw them flying in southern Oregon, beautiful birds indeed. This beauty looks content and proud waiting on the seagull to digest.
A marvelous bird!
Beautiful picture of a smug pelican and a lovely poem which keeps the reader with a smile on his/her face!
Fun post! And a nice shot of the pelican. It looks as if it may be enjoying a satisfying meal...
You made me laugh with your poem and made me admire you with your photo.
