White horse for sale

When we moved to Ocala, we noticed Gallery Square right away. A very good looking building on Silver Springs boulevard, it was used as an art gallery, an exhibition hall and for other special events.

Alas, the economic turmoil has taken its toll and Gallery Square has closed. The owners are selling off some of their art collection and this white horse was located out front of the building, perhaps to attract an interested buyer.

I know it doesn't measure up to the sculptural excellence of Europe, but hey, it ain't bad for Florida!

Sadly, way to many wonderful establishments are disappearing due to our grey Economic situation...

I'm guessing it's a bit big for most European gardens too! I hope they manage to recoup some of their costs though - this is such a difficult time.

I'm sure there's a mythical reference here but d... I can't find it. Pegasus... Maybe... I'll have to think about it all afternoon now...

So, did you buy it?

Lowell said...

Well, after careful consideration, we decided not to...it's huge!

Lowell said...

@ Ciel - Let me know if you figure it out...

How much is it?

Unfortunately, I think we are going to see a lot more of these closings.

Lowell said...

@ Steffe - I don't have a clue; there was no price tag on it...I'm sure it was for sale, but I think was more of a "come-on" for people driving by...to catch their eye and get them to come in and see what else was being sold...

Pegasus has its wing on the back (it is the symbol of Tuscany). Probably those wing-like 'devices' are intended only to strenghten the statue, so narrow there...

Lowell said...

@ Bergson - thanks for the link. That's pretty much what I thought, but your link provided a good history lesson re: Manifest.

Maybe a bit to large for my balcony :-) But a great shot of a great white horse.

Too bad this place has closed. The horse is magnificent though!

Good idea to put this out front, it would draw me in.

Right now I see businesses closing AND new ones opening up. There's no pattern to it.
The 100 Strangers Project is on Flickr and I've signed up for it put haven't postedthere, just on my CDP blog. The rules are: you ask a stranger if you can photograph them, you exchange names, and then you create a portrait that conveys something about them as an individual. I've been pleasantly surprised how much fun it is and how much more interested in portraiture I've become.

OK, I now believe it's a fake Pegasus.

Lowell said...

@ Ciel - You're so funny! What makes a Pegasus a fake? ;-)

Lovely photo and a beautiful sculpture.

May be another restaurant could be interested!!

Lowell said...

Marie-Noyale - I think the plan is to tear it down and build something else, but I don't know what...

I've heard of the Trojan horse, not the Ocala Horse. Sad to see the economy is still spiraling downward.

Well, after thinking long and hard all afternoon AT WORK of all places, I think the artist got it wrong OR made his very own kind of Pegasus.

Joy said...

The horse doesn't seem to want to be sold! It may grow wings and just fly away.

Thanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and leaving your comment. Come back tomorrow for a new series!

@ Ciel - My goodness! You have exerted yourself way too much, AT WORK, no less! But I think you're right...the artist did his own thing without any real reflection on the mythical stuff.

Have a great day. And stop thinking to hard at work. ;-)

Aww, I think we are going to see a lot more of these closings. Let's hope world economics get improving soon.

Have a great day.

Since we are talking about selling a horse, click on 'horses for sale'. If you are wanting to sell something other than a horse, you can come back to this page later and list it then.
