Ye Olde Jukebox

Some of us remember the days of jukeboxes. You put in a dime, chose your favorite song and then would invite your sweetie to do some jitterbugging: At the diner; or soda shop.

This lovely machine is available at Kane's Furniture Store. I don't know the price. But who'd want to buy it? It's "out of order."

I also remember the small ones that were in the booths of the diners. By the way, who did put the bop in the bop-she-bop?

Oui, c'était le bon temps. Maintenant chacun a sa petite musique et reste tout seul dans son coin sans se soucier des autres...

Very good image. It would be hard to explain these things to the kids of the iPods...

I didn't even notice that little sign at first. Suppose this machine might only be used as furniture for the eye. I'd like to hear this beauty play music though...

The market economy tends to take care of most issues so I bet there's someone somewhere who could provide proper service and maintenance for this thingie. But I guess it's the kind of device everyone will admire and no one will put a coin into anymore. Not much of a business opportunity there.

Oh, how fun! I love the shininess and the colors of this photo! But jukeboxes to me bring up visions of Joan Jett saying/screaming, "I love Rock 'N' Roll, so put another dime in the jukebox, baby!" Good times! - Sorry to see that it is out of order. Bummer.

@ Lee - That upchucky thingy is quite a site, Lee! Way more information than I can handle this morning! But thanks for pointing it out to me!

Shht. Don't tell my boyfriend I've seen this. He'll want it, out of order or not. Then our living room will be full of bits and pieces while he takes it apart... ;-) It's beautiful!

It sure is a beauty! Too bad it doesn't work.

I wish I could zoom in and read the names of the songs -- I bet it would bring back some good memories!

Wow that is a beauty. Remember 'rec rooms' in basements. I would love to have the Juke box but, alas, I don't have a rec room or even a basement. MB

nostalgia is priceless!

That's an awesome device! Compare this to today's iPods and such. There are lying worlds between them. However, this one has patina which makes it almost priceless.

A great blast from the past! My dad used to repair these things way back when. Maybe it can be fixed.

Funny!

I think putting "ye olde" on anything makes it so much more quaint!

I've seen the old ones in antique stores - very pricey!

A dime? I remember a quarter a song .. lovely old juke box

Lowell said...

@ Daryl - A quarter? Well, you must be a lot younger than I am!

Cool, Jacob. Like Daryl, I remember putting quarters in the machines.

Doesn't it make you wonder what of today's stuff will be future memorabilia?

Juke boxes are so very cool! This one is a beauty and looks so well preserved (being out of order I presume it's not new...)

You made me laugh again with your neighbour dialogue comment! :-)

Did you mean you put in a nickel, Jacob?

Ahhh the old Wurlitzer Juke Box. If it is a genuine Wurlitzer, this is quite a find. They were not inexpensive when they were being built..... a vintage model, still in good working condition would be worth a pretty piece of change.

Gorgeous shot. My favorite thing about these juke boxes was the bubble piping. The brown tube the curves up to the top between the two wide pearl pieces...... it would light up and bubbles would rise to the top in it.... a signature mark.

LOVE those old jukeboxes - great photo.

May be they should try n repair it and then sell! Might get a good price some day as an antique!

These have become very popular in recent years. I know a few people who have bought jukeboxes. My barber has one on a wall in his saloon. And it is in working order and filled with the right music.

It's a beauty! Everyone loves a jukebox. My son wanted us to buy one when he was 8. I think he saw some at an old diner and then at a burger place in Disneyland.
