Memorial Day - 2010

Memorial Day (formerly Decoration Day) was established to honor U.S. service personnel who died in uniform while serving their country. Memorial services are held throughout the country and people celebrate with parades and picnics.

Too many have died, not only in the U.S. but every other country. And the killing continues. Sometimes I think we don't learn a damn thing. Or perhaps humans love to make war on other humans. Whatever, it never seems to stop.

Great Photo to commemorate the day, and I understand your frustration about the in ability of humans to learn anything from the past in terms of war and violence. PS. I left a note for you on my F. Scott post today to answer your question about his name.

Nice shot, I love the colors. Happy Memorial Day to you, too. Agree with you comments. It's a shame countries have to have armies.

My head is full of a book I've just read about war, war, and more war perpetrated throughout the world. It's not just tragic, it's thoughtless, greedy, and so inhumane in its inception and follow-through. It must be in the genes. I can't see how else it continues. Certainly not because we care about anyone now or in the future. It's altogether tragic and stupid.

Sadly I do think it's just human nature. Maybe someday it'll stop, but the way things are going, I'm pretty sure it won't be in our lifetimes.

I wonder if there's a significance in the number of flags here. If so, my respects to this family.

We must never forget those that gave their lives so that our way of life can continue on!

PS: You have to check out my day4plus blog and tell me what you think when speeding over head. Strange. MB

I agree with you Jacob. It often seems like we and the politicians don`t learn from the past/ the history.

We sometimes get soldiers back home in a way these young men should not arrive back home...

Is Memorial Day always at a weekend, or do you have a day off work to celebrate?

The house looks nice and solid.Nice tall windows.

Ah c'mon Jacob, I know MB's post is great but so is yours.

Not only do we never learn but don't you think human nature is such that we CAN'T learn?

Yes, the wars go on. Humans are, I believe, the only species who purposely wages war on each other.

Yes, too many wars, I agree. Humans are a bellicose bunch! All you have to do is watch little kids on a playground for a while.

I completely agree with your second paragraph. And I will never understand that fact.

I couldn't agree more with you, Jacob! Just look at what's going on now between Israel and Turkey after the attack at the humanitarian aid ship!...

People love war, otherwise why would we have it?

Lovely photo.

This is a lovely capture of emotion and tones.

Much too many die, worldwide, and it seems as if it is never ending.
