White Pelicans at Play
It is great fun to watch these White Pelicans play. They group together and then corral a shoal of fish into a pelican "net" under water. At that point, the butts of the Pelicans jut up into the sky and their beaks disappear into the water where the fish disappear into the pelican beaks.
It's probably not that much fun for the fish. And you can see a couple of small ducks in the background, following along, trying to get in on some of the action.
The CDP theme for March is "Play." You can check out how other CDP participants translated the theme into a photo HERE.

Pelicans are such funny looking birds but when they are flying they look so graceful.
I was just amazed when we first saw that behavior -- fishing cooperatively. Who says they are 'bird-brains'!
That is cooperation!
They're remarkable birds!
Now that's working together for a common goal, fish!
Pelicans are so funny---saw some (first time) over on the Yakima River. I was so surprised. I have seen the brown ones at the Ocean but never white. I didn't know we had 'em here. Good idea for the theme
Yes buck has been romping with all the other dogs probably your Goldie too

This is a great picture! Now, can you get us a picture of pelican butts in the air?
About time for these pelicans to fly back to South Dakota for their summer here.
Linda formação.
Um abraço e bom fim-de-semana.
