Yesterday, while pumping gas into our car, I looked up and beheld this scene. Naturally, I grabbed a camera and clicked away.
Believe it or not, this is a color photo. The elements combined however, to make it appear as a black and white picture. On the left side you'll see two crows in the branches. I think it might make a good cover for a mystery novel.

This is an amazing photo. That's one of the great things about photography. There's always a bit of mystery to how any given photo is going to turn out. Looks like a good Alfred Hitchcock cover.

Your photo today is frightening
With a cover like this you must write a mystery novel just to use it. Wonderful image of a spooky tree.
eerie sight! well captured!
on dirait un dessin à l'encre de chine
they would say a drawings in the ink of China
It sure would make a good cover for a mystery novel. My favorite genre of books! Its strange though, the result you got is directly shot from a camera?
Somewhere, Mr. Poe is smiling.
Huh, interesting effect! Pretty grim actually! The tree looks so damn dead.
@ Kcalpesh - Pretty much. I did "polarize" it but the only difference it made was to grey out the bottom part of the photo...it's really quite weird...the day was cloudy, and I was shooting into the sun, but I thought there should be some color!
Was it foggy that day or did you photoshop this?
The effect is really neat. Now you've just got to write the novel. :)
@ Halcyon...not foggy, but cloudy. I polarized the photo but the only difference it made can be seen in the grey areas at the bottom. Nothing else changed. Other than cropping and bumping up the contrast a bit, it's the way it was...a nice color photograph!
for a black novel
That's really cool. I can picture this framed and hanging on a wall.
This reminds me that when I lived in California noisy crows were everywhere but in Texas I didn't even see one and in Pennsylvania only a few.
nice .. you should sign into Mr Linky for Monochrome Maniacs, its not just a Monday MEME
Yes it does look scary! I like it.
Actually I thought that the picture has an Asian feel to it. Personally I like crows and ravens. I don't find them ominous. I guess I am so used to them. I am out camping this week and they are everywhere. Btw, on Sunday I'll be at a high mtn lake in British Columbia for a week w/o laptop or reception so I'll not be posting. Thanks for all your kind words these past weeks, fondly, Lee
Hitchcock...
I was about to say "Nevermore," but realized I had somewhat of the wrong bird. :) Interesting shot!
Nice tree and shot.... it is a little sinister but would like to have seen more "evil" interpretation coming into it... .crows and all? Was this also in the "bible belt"?:::))))Ok, so I watch too many movies!
Ahhh...spooky, I like it.
Very artistic!
WOW !!!!!! That is one very cool shot !
I see this photo and I think..... Edger Allen Poe. The Raven.
This one is really inspiring. And how incredible to come across this scene in a natural setting. One of your best Jacob. I really like this one.
Nothing short of stunning.
Perfect landscaping for "five acres and a house." Love this photo. Proof positive it pays to carry a camera at ALL times!
Amazing B&W. We will see "Vertigo" next week.AH.
Well, Jacob, when I write a mystery novel - I'll contact you.
Prospero made me smile! :-) Very cool shot indeed!
It looks like paper cover, or card. Beautiful one :)
Great shot - well seen, taken and processed.
Nice!
