Bowling Alley

So far as I know, there are two extant bowling alleys in Ocala. This one is located in a small shopping center on the east side of town. For a variety of reasons, most of which are unknown to me, the sport of bowling has lost its allure for many people.

That's rather sad, I think.

I grew up in era when bowling was fun and also a social event. I had my own ten pin ball with holes drilled in it to fit my hand grip. Also had a special bag to carry it in and my own bowling shoes.

I love to bowl. Luckily there are 3 bowling alleys near me. You wouldn't even know one was a bowling alley if you didn't live near it. There would be no mistaking what that building was.

...bowling alleys are becoming few and far between around here!

There are a couple of blowing alleys still going here but I haven't bowled in years. I always loved it though. I don't know why it isn't popular anymore either.

There was one (and it's probably still there) in the town near where I grew up. I might have played once or twice, but that's about it.

I think here bowling isn't as popular anymore as it was in the past. It must have been years since we went bowling, can't even remember when that was..
Anyway there is no doubt the building on your photo is a bowling alley! :)

I remember some 20 years ago when I was working for First Interstate Bank on a rather large project, I had to spend some time in Reno Nevada doing some training. One time on the flight up to Reno, there was going to be a National Bowling Championship held there and just about everyone on the airplane was carrying their coveted bowling balls with them. They were all in fancy cases, so they weren't rolling around in the overheads or anything like that. It was just remarkable that almost everyone on the flight was carrying a bowling ball case.

A very showy sign.

I grew up bowling candlepin and was in various leagues. Our team was one of the top ones in the league sponsored by our post office. Eventually I stopped probably because I started playing darts. I was hooked on that for years and still have a dartboard and my darts. Anyway, bowling was lots of fun. I remember watching championship bowling on tv. Candlepin bowling was very popular in New England. Super memory grabber photo, Lowell. :)

That is a shame Lowell, it's such a good family fun time activity . Happy weekend to you both ✨

I have never been attracted to the sport of bowling, but I liked the beer and hamburgers often served at bowling alleys.

I think I've only been bowling once, but it is sad to see a pastime like that be abandoned.

Our bowling alley shut down four or five years ago. And there weren't any takers in the wings ready to keep things going.
